Sorry if this has been asked already, but we don't quite understand taking objectives. If the conditions are met, do you take the objective immediately, even if the other player has not yet moved? Thanks for your help. We're playing right now, actually....

My understanding is you take it at the end of the turn after all phases are complete. Your opponent gets the opportunity to destroy your ships first. If no ships remain in the sector with the objective it reamins unclaimed.

When a ship rolls into a box with the OBJ. you do not take the 50 VP (victory points) You have to hold it there untill the end of the turn. When that turn ends you get the 50 VP. But while you are in that box, your oppnent can try to contest it with another ship (subs and planes do not count. Not sure what other units can not at the moment)
So one gets the 50 VP at the end of the turn if it remains contest. It will remain contested untill one of the ships has left the square.
Or
blow your/his/her ship out of the water.
Help any?

As I understand it, at the end of any turn a ship is in the obj. square with no enemy ships in or adjacent to the square. you get the 50 points.

Thanks, All. That helps. It's funny, but we don't see anywhere where it says you wait until the end of the turn. I'm glad everyone is playing it that way though, because I just can't imagine it being immediate. Thanks again! We'll check the board again just in case anyone else chimes in.

Yes that is right a enemy ship can not be adjacent to your own in order to claim it.
Sorry about that mate.

On page 15 of the Advanced rules under the explanation of "I. End Phase" it reads;
" Claim an Objective marker is you have a ship in that sector and no enemy Ships are in or adjacent to that sector"

Actually the section has the heading of "I. END OF TURN"

If one has the Baltimore in the objective sector...and a U-510 is in the adjacent sector...at the end of the turn, does the Baltimore get the objective? I know that subs cannot claim objectives but do they count as being adjacent?

Only ships can deny an enemy an objective. So yes the Baltimore can take it in your example.
"If you have a Ship in an objective sector, and no enemy Ships are in or adjacent to that sector, you may claim the Objective marker. Check to make sure you’ve recorded the Victory Points for destroying enemy units and claiming objectives this turn."

As I read it, Submarines are NOT considered a ship for purposes of this game. (page 39 under "submarine" and then again under "Type") SO I would Not consider a submarine, Motor Transport, nor aircraft able to contest a victory point. of course it is only My Opinion...

I was pretty sure thats how it would work...but it just looked odd to me when the situation came up. Thanks!

The jury is still out, however, on wether or not 'No Sea Control'/PT Boats can control objectives. Read Richard Baker's responses in the Rules Questions thread.
