Ok here’s my battle report. I hadn't seen any WAS reports yet and I really enjoy reading the AA mini ones. I think I like this game better though... I built the fleets using pieces I had, which isn’t that many yet. Also I don’t like to mix nations from different theaters so no Japan and German mix etc.
In this case I wanted to see how a Carrier group would fair against a battleship fleet.
British Carrier Task Force:
HMS Ark Royal 22pts.
HMAS Sydney 14pts.
HMS Javelin 9 pts.
HMS Truculent 12 pts.
Swordfish Mk. II x3 30pts.
Sea Hurricane Mk. 1B x2 10pts.
Total= 97pts.
German/Itallian Joint Task Group
Vittorio Veneto 48pts.
Luca Tarigo 8pts.
Admiral Graf Spee 21pts.
Karl Galster 8pts.
Ju 87B Stuka 7pts.
FW 200 Kondor 6pts.
Total= 98 pts.
Map 6 was rolled, which is the one with land on either side.
The Ark Royal’s task force off of Gibraltar sights a German battleship fleet headed out to sea. The Admiralty orders an attack!
Allies win coin flip and chose the side with the single small island. The Ark Royal deploys behind it for cover along with the Javelin. The Sydney sets up to the right ready to make a run for an objective. Two Swordfishes and a hurricane are based on the carrier with an extra of each on land at Gibraltar. The Truculent sits just behind the center objective.
Axis sets up in two groups The Italians (Vittorio and Tarigo) and the Germans (Graf Spee and Galster) The Italians will go to the left most obj. (assuming we’’re looking at the map from the allies side), while the Germans will go for the center. The Stuka and Kondor are on call in Axis occupied N. Africa for bombing runs.

-Both axis task forces speed towards their assigned obj.
-Truculent parks on the middle obj. while sydney advances towards the right obj., The carrier stays safely behind the small islet.
The German command sees the lone Sydney and sends both its aircraft to sink it. The British send their Hurricanes to aid the Sydney while the three squadrons of Swordfish assault the Graf Spee.
AIR DEFENSE
-Graf Spee, misses, Karl galster rolls 3 sixes!! and kills a swordfish.
-Sydney aborts Kondor, Hurricane aborts stuka.
AIR ATTACK
-2 Remaining swordfish launch torps at the pocket battleship. 1st one scores a hit! 2pts hull damage. 2nd.... Lucky Roll! hits and sinks the Spee!

TURN 2
Allies again win init.
- Italians continue towards left obj.
- Karl Galster, now alone, decides to hunt the British sub, and moves towards the middle obj.
-Truculent moves forward to confront the destroyer.
-Sydney continues towards right obj. Carrier stays put.
-Two Swordfish and a Hurricane now attack the Italian battleship.
-Axis planes are re-arming
AIR DEFENSE
-Vittorio aborts a swordfish
-Tarigo rolls 4 sixes! obliterating the other swordfish.
AIR ATTACK
Hurricane decides to strafe the Luca Tarigo for fun, somehow scoring 2 hits on 2 die! One damage cripples the destroyer.
Meanwhile the Karl Galster drops some depth charges on the Truculent and hits! Crippling the sub.
The Truculent returns fire with only 3 die (since it’s crippled) It manages 3 sixes (I couldn’t believe it either) sinking the destroyer.

TURN 3
Allies win init. again.
Axis claim left obj. with Italians, Sydney claims the right one for the Allies.
The refueled Axis planes attack the Ark Royal. The lone Swordfish attacks the Vittorio while the Hurricanes scramble to defend the flattop. The Truculent inches towards the Italians.
AIR DEFENSE
-Vittorio KOs the last Swordfish
- Ark Royal aborts the Kondor
-Hurricane aborts the Stuka
- Truculent takes a range 2 shot at Vittorio and misses.
Okay so the Axis only has the full power Vittorio, their planes and a crippled Luca Tarigo
The Allies have the Ark Royal, Sydney, 2 hurricanes and the Javelin
TURN 4
Axis finally wins initiative.
Sydney moves to grab the center obj. Truculent gets closer to the Italians
Italians move into the zone with the sub, the guns are finally in range of something... HMAS Sydney.
The Hurricanes decide to harass the Luca again
AIR DEFENSE
-Luca Tarigo misses
-Vittorio aborts one fighter.
AIR ATTACK
The second hurricane strafes the destroyer and again scores 2 hits! sinking the ship!!!
-The Vittorio is all that is left, as the Axis planes are re arming.
Sydney lines up her main guns on the Vittorio @ range 3 and rolls.... 2 fours, 1 five and 2 sixes! 7 hits!!!- which still fails to pierce the thick armor of the battleship.
-Vittorio unleashes hell on Sydney
Main guns= 12 hits!!! sinking the Sydney in one fell stroke!
The Truculent fires at point blank range and misses.

TURN 5
Allies win init.
Vittorio seizes center obj., Truculent limps after her. Ark and escort move over to remain behind the islet. Axis planes assault the carrier who scrambles fighters to defend.
The allies are really depending on the sub to kill the battleship at this point.

Allies abort Axis air attacks
Truculent fires at range 1 and hit! 2 hull damage on the Vittorio.

TURN 6
Allies win init.
-Axis just needs one kill to win.
-Vittorio moves and the carrier group counters they are on opposite sides of the islet.
-No air movement as the hurricanes would be useless against the battleship.
-Truculent fires again and misses.
TURN 7
-Allies, sick of hiding and hoping for some luck decide to make a stand. The carrier group comes out of cover, the Axis realizes the only real threat is the sub and launch their planes at it. Hurricanes scramble to help. (the sub is in the same zone as the carrier at this point)
AIR DEFENSE
- Ark kills the Kondor
- Hurricane aborts Stuka
Here we go. The Vittorio opens up on the Ark Royal at range 1. 13 hits. KO”s the carrier. 2ndary guns fire on the Javelin- they damage and cripple it.
-Ark returns fire and misses
-Javelin misses
-Truculent misses
-Both aircraft survive the sinking carrier but it’s to late the Axis has won! sinking the 22 pt. Ark Royal puts them over the top on points.
I thought the carrier group had a better chance of winning but apparently not. They maintained air superiority since the axis planes never got a shot off, they took out one battle ship but failed to do anything else significant. The submarine was actually much better then I thought, she sunk a couple of ships and was the only one to damage the Vittorio. In the end the battleships armor was to thick for any of the allied ships to do any damage. Interesting stuff. What do you think?
