Does anyone else get the idea that the Vittorio Veneto is quite a powerful unit? (Especially for 49 points). It has ripped apart any fleet I've put against it, including an 8 on 1 scenario.
And yesterday, I watched as two Vittorio's tore through an Iowa-Tennessee combo, sinking the Tennessee in one shot (15/15 success), with each Vittorio only taking 2-3 damage. It just seems to be a very powerful battleship for the cost. :)

Sounds like good die rolling to me.
What were the 8 ships you saw 1 Vinnie beat?

I would think that a well-played Range 5 fleet could handle the Vinny pretty easy.

Playing a scenario "Sink the Vittorio", it had to successfully cross the map while the Allied fleet tried to sink it.
Allied Force:
- USS Salt Lake City
- USS Boise
- USS Samuel B. Roberts
- USS Barb
- HMS Ajax
- HMS Javelin
- HMS Truculent
- Le Terrible
Vittorio sunk all surface ships and managed to escape the two subs pursuing it to successfully cross the map. The Vittorio was down to 2 hull points I believe, all damage dealt from torpedoes. This was basically the best Allied fleet I could put together to challenge it from the units available to me.

I like this ship with a German/Itallian combo. As long as it does not face a range 5 unit is can hold it's own pretty well.
I have used it to place on a side objective square and then range on the middle objective with main and secondary guns effectively.
For 49 points it is a good unit and will not cost you victory if it is sunk.

Yep. We played a French vs Italians game [no aircraft on either side] and the Richelieu reduced the VV to scrap iron in short order.

We played a 200 point, 4 player game with each building a fleet from a starter and two boosters. Our opponents had VV, Tone, and Kongo. My ally built a US carrier fleet. I had the Richelieu. We kept winning initiative and I damaged VV from range 5 reducing it to range 3. Then I damaged it two more turns from range 4. She missed when she got into range, and was finished off by planes or my USS Barb I think.

I prefer the French battleship for 5 points more.

... which annoys me to no end, because the Vinny (and friends) were known for their extreme long reach.

I was actually going to put up a thread titled pretty much the same thing last night haha. The Vinny with a wolfpack....yikes...
Compair Vittoeo to USS-Tennessee, almost identical, same armor, same main guns. The Tennessee only costs 43 points. Does anyone really want to claim that the marginall advantages Vittoreo has over Tennessee are worth 6 extra points.

Nope, there is no point in arguing. I am certain you have made up your mind that it is not worth the 6 points.
They do have different secondary guns, and the speed 1 could be a factor for Tennessee.
