If you offer someone a trade and they live the other side of this rock give them time to respond before you trade it away to someone else.

I have had four trades in the last two weeks fall over because people are not being patient with the fact I live so far away. I am on here at least two or three times a day, but I have to gop to work and sleep so can't be all the time.

I don't believe that's because these traders are distant or in different timezones. Basically, they're often jumping on the first thing/deal that comes along and/or not updating their trade lists with pendings in a timely manner. It's inefficient to most involved and seems unfair to those who aren't first. But mostly it hurts the premature trader by severely limiting their options and trades.:(

I was surprised when I posted my last trade list how many people responded after I had edited the page to say the trade had been finalized. It also helps to read thoroughly before you hit the PM button

I allow 7 days, and put (pending) on my list.

Beach fox , I shall give you an example.

I was working on a trade with a person from the US of A, trying to beef it ouot for both of us to, make it worth the postage. he asked if I had a different rare for something he had pulled that day, I replyed the next mornig to be told sorry traded it at a game last night. You think that was fair or not undating a list??

I'm not getting on a soapbox for this one just want a fair playing feild for those of us not in the US mainland, I think for those I have traded with and are currently working on trades with that I am fair and try where I can to make it worth the postage. (It costs me nearly $9 to send you guys the box)

I share your pain, I have had similar problems even with potential trading partners in the same country. Quite often, I feel, it's the younger, less patient gamers / traders that will pull this. Negotiate over the net, but the "impulse" to trade face to face is just too much. I have had to bite the frustration in getting a deal finalized for that needed mini, just to get a "Sorry Dude." email. It's rude I will agree. I put them on my "Don't bother" list and get onto other traders who DO live up to a code of trading ethics.

Stay positive, there are good traders out there.

P.S. What are you looking for???? ;)

Thier you go. While it may seem that your distance is the reason (and occasionally it might be), the main reason is people who bite off more than they can chew, or are just in the business of changing thier minds. You can have a solid trade all ready to go, but the other person decides on a whim to do something else. Thier is little to no committment in people these days, and the younger they are, the more likely they are to be the kind of person who wont stick to a committment. Thier is just less honor these days, and if you are not face to face, it easier for people to blow you off. We can thank the internet for many things, and that is one of them. I get people all the time who ask how much a custom job will be, let me go through the time to work up a quote, make records, and respond. The quote seems to be agreeable to them, yet nothing happens. Then it turns out later someone else agreed to do it for them for free. I dont blame them for going another cheaper route (although they are missing out on a really fine paint job), but it would be nice for them to tell me, but they dont.
My records are FULL of dead files. But the ones that follow through make it worth it, and occasionally you make a really good friend/contact. Hang in there, the good ones will come along. I've made some great contacts in countries on the far side of the rock.

Good Luck Kiwi! I'm glad you voiced your concern, some of these guys are very honorable traders - you hang in there.

Personally I think what is worse then this is when the guy doesn't even respond to your trade offer. I can understand if a guy gets a trade offer that is considerably better then mine and he feels that I can't match or better the offer and therefor trades away the units I wanted but at least respond and let a guy know what is going on.

Sounds mostly like you're running into some undesirable and sleazy trade tactics. Though your difficulty seems to be mainly easily swayed or whimsical traders rather than extremely unsavory sort of rip-offs. Remember, it wasn't an issue before you heard about it and something else along the same lines will likely come along soon enough. Be patient.
