OWWWWWWWW!!!!!
Watch out on the beaches. Those aren't lifeguard towers and summer swimmers. Those are GUNS. Big Guns. 50/50 on a targeted roll. OWWWW!! Many 50/50 on targeted rolls. The pain!!!

This game looks better and better with each article. Columns of panzers destroyed by the Air Forces of the US and UK. Entire Divisions ground up on the beaches. And this even before any real combat yet. I can't wait to see how the units have changed and how these battles are played out.

What's the point in the blockhouses that can't shoot at any beaches?

To all those who thought this was going to be bad for the Axis, I think things just got really even. 50% kill percentage per blockhouse on Allies troops? Ouch

patronium, it's probably for historical accuracy. I may be wrong, however.

All of these blockhouses existed, even though some of them were not in the path of Allied invaders. So they're all in the game. All can play a part in land combat, even if some can't hit anything in the water.

Besides, someone's going to come up with a variant where you can come ashore anywhere on the map. So having, say, the coastal city of Cherbourg undefended by blockhouses wouldn't have made sense.

This is by far an excellent addition to the world of A&A! :D
The way the blockhouse piece functions and with a 50/50 kill rate, this has got to be the best unit of the new game IMHO.

Mike, you guys have outdone yourselves this time!

Looks awesome; can't wait to get my copy. But when I look at it, it seriously looks like the Allies are going to have a wicked hard time getting onto the beaches. They'll be lucky to win even one battle, what with those bloody blockhouses pummeling them at sea ;) .

Can't wait to try this one out with my brother! (He is always crying about wanting to play "one" on "one"...."Well here you go!") Should be an awesome, grueling gauntlet for the Allies- can't wait to try! Bring it on!!! :D

This game looks very exciting. The blockhouse’s ability to score hits 50% of the time balance against Naval bombardment destroying blockhouses 33% of the time should make for interesting decisions. I can see as one beach becomes clear of blockhouses, the Allies shifting troops there to make for a easier landing; but the Axis player will reinforce with his own troops to keep "the Crush" in effect. Therefore, the Allies will be forced to send more troops into beaches that still have the deadly blockhouses firing.

Now if we can just get an official released day so I can budget funds properly to grab a copy the first day it is out.

I'm already planning a raid on the piggy bank. For starters I've lined up this tank crew that has a loudspeaker and a fake tube to make their gun seem larger. Oh the positive vibes! :D

I've been waiting for a blockhouse piece for years! Those things are going to do quadruple duty in all of my A&A games.

I like the first-strike shot at amphibious assaulters mechanic, however I'm not quite sure what to cost the piece at. Since you can't move a BH, it would have to stay where it's built. And since not every place that needs a BH would need a factory, I propose the following rule:

INFs can convert into BHs at the beginning of the purchase units phase (no ICs required) for the cost of 5IPCs each.

This costing is not completely prohibative, but it's high enough that it wouldn't pay to make every INF in the game a BH.

I'd be interested to what people think of potential crossover uses for this piece: i.e., island fortresses in the Pacific, coastal defences in Europe, etc. I think it will be a welcome addition to the other games in the series.

Thanks for the plug, Mr.Nads, but they are unfortunately out of stock.

I will post the rules for them for free so you guys can use buttons, pills, or Cheerios in the meantime.

Give me awhile to get this done - I am at work right now, hiding under my desk in fear that the Gestapo will discover me...

Der Panzinator has a great rule for fortress' in his advanced aae version...

perhaps he will share with us...

in this version of aa, it looks like cards will be factors of movement, conflicts...

is this a shuffle the cards for random events type of game, each game slightly different...like each side is dealt a hand to game with, or does it include all cards...

will read again the amount of cards...

what a job !! designing game pieces for games !!

good article mike ! the twice a week flows much better than once a week..!! thanks AH for adjusting that...

the fortress units i made were painted pill boxes in the center of yellow chips i dont use, they stack nicely. no more fortress units than IPC value of a territory. they assist in defending against amphibious assaults, rule taken from an AA add on...will be nice to add the new BH units to other versions instead of using my "home made" chips...

EXCELLENT !!

-cheers
