Hello to All, I played game two and three today at the one of the local game stores and have a better feel for the rules and how the game plays. I have now played a total of three full games of WaS. 1. My destroyer (Yukikaze) survived the first game and die in a grotesque military manner the second game. 2. Both carriers were eventually sunk but not before the three flights of Vals sunk two cruisers and crippled a third. My sub sank a destoyer and was never touched. 3. The opponent's subs were used to moderate effect in the first game and in the second game sunk the Yamato near the end of the game. I was slow to get to the objectives the first game and faster the second. I got one early, he got one early and he got the last one after a long battle at the it's location. He managed to sink all three of my surface vessles and in doing so captured the last objective. This, with the points for what he sank earned him the win. He won game one as well.
4. I do not see that the destroyers are too easily sunk. I pesonally have spoken to a retired Navy Captain that had three destroyers sunk by single torpedo hits during the Pacific war (WW II) after he had set foot on the deck of the new destroyer he was transfered to. Destroyers are called "TIN CANS" for a reason. 5. I do not see the subs in the game as too powerful. They can be effective... depending on your die rolls (mine suck). I hit twice in two game with my sub. 6. I like the game. Yes, it is simple. I like simple. I played two games in less than two hours, got home in time to help my wife walk the two dogs and have supper with the wife. If I want complicated I will play "Sixth Fleet" or one of it's sister games or Star Fleet Battles. 7. The games plays well. There is a rhythm to it and it flows well. I like it the way it is. 8. I don't think any fixes are needed.
