Ok... I still have'nt try the game but: can someone tell me exactly what you get in a starter set and is it possible to play and have fun with just a starter set.

I thank you in advance for your answer

You likely wont get a full fleet of one navy in a starter but rather a mix, like 5 allied and 4 Axis, something like that. You do get dice, maps, and counters plus rulebook.

My advice is to buy a starter and 2-3 boosters and hopefully you should have enough to do 100 point Axis and allies fleets but they might be mixed, Brits/Americans, Germans/Italians but thats ok.

Its a FUN game!

I did a little reading before getting into WaS (just last week) and decided to purchase two boosters along with the starter. The initial 9 untis really don't give you much to work with, so I was glad I got the boosters -- allowed a friend and I to dive right in. Beware, though: I've since purchased two more boosters from a local shop and four more + some single units online. Dangerous game. :)

Here's a question: what does buying a "case" get you other than 10-12 boosters or however many are included? Are they packaged so that you're sure to get a different "rare" ship in each booster?

I believe mine came with one -- either the USS Princeton or the Ark Royal, I don't recall which.

You'll get one rare in each starter and booster. All of the battleships, battlecruisers, heavy cruisers, fleet carriers, and light carriers are rares.

There's no guarantee that you will get a different rare in each booster in a case. It's the luck of the draw.

I got a case of boosters and got a different rare and different uncommon in each one. Maybe they pack them so there are no repeats of these in a case?
Obviously there were some repeats of commons.

I have bought 3 cases and haven't gotten duplicate rares in any one case.

Yeek. So , Capt. Strange, did three cases get you all 64 ships?

(SgtTibo -- sorry to have hijacked this thread... hopefully you're getting the answers you need as well. I'll say this -- the thing I'm most sorely lacking after the base set and four boosters is planes. I've got a pair of battleships, three carriers, several big cruisers, lots of destroyers, a handful of subs, and a smattering of planes. 1 TBD, 3 Vals, 2 Sea Hurricanes and a Kondor.)

I've heard that there are no dupe Rare or Uncommons per case. Since there are only 12 uncommons, a case should give you 1 of every uncommon, and half the rares. With 28 commons left, and 36 commons total, you should get at least 1 of every common.

2 cases, of course, does not guarantee getting every rare, you will probably get 3-5 duplicate rares between cases.

Out of 3 cases, 2 starters, and 2-3 extra boosters, ive gotten 1 Kondor so there is not truth to the post above about getting 1 of each uncommon. You SHOULD but you don't. :(
