Hey guys
I just completed a custom map board (will post pics at a later date) and thought of a way to make Destoyers a little more valuable. My firend and I played a game today and it seemed to help the little guys out a bit.
The map is now 8 and 9 zones wide (compared to 7 and 8) and 14 long (11 on the original). Units can now deploy on the first two rows instead of one. We each rolled a die and that was how many islands each of us could place (before chosses ends). This now allows up to 12 islands being on the board, creating more tactical decisions when deploying your fleet. The only rule we made was that now two islands could touch each other you had more varied terrain to move among.
This seemed to allow much more cover and just that extra one row of width allowed much more space to manouver. Destoyers lasted much longer and Battleships still had extended range, although they had to pick their shots a little more. Destoyers were still susceptible to aircraft, but with the right unit mix, that wasn't as much of an issue.
Something to try and debate if you choose.
