What's your favorite destroyer in War at Sea? You can give your reason below, whatever that might be — playability, historical performance, or just a cool-looking mini.

Karl Goster. That stacking rule is a nice freebie.

Sammy B... never survives a battle, but it's a nifty little package! And if it can catch a sub, that sub is probably going to die...

Type 13 Subchaser because it is the bane of the board. There is absolutely zero love for it here. Shame because...

Blah, I can't continue.

house rules: Type 13 subchasers cannot be targetted by extended range, get speed 2, Gunnery 18/15/10, AA 8, ASW 8, Torpedoes 3/3/3 Armor 10, vital 15, Hull 1 (hehe), chase salvoes, expert AA, torpedo defense 1 (hehe), smoke screen, close escort....

Ok, now I'll take a few

I'm afraid Luca Tarigo is feeling a little left out, as well. Where is Count Ciano?

I voted for the Z-20. It's the only destroyer that regularly gets into my builds, because it can stack with two BB's and have some protection against air attack.

Luca Tarigo. ALL destroyers are pretty much useless in fleet actions but at least Luca Tarigo has a nice stripy fore-deck for you to admire as it slips statelily beneath the waves.

I like the Le Terrible for its flank speed. I have two and they have cme in handy. I also like the Javelin for the lay smoke screen.

Karl Galster is a good Destroyer--close escort being one of the better abilities in the game--but I think I like the Javelin and Fletcher better. Javelin has smoke and subchaser--two important destroyer abilities--as well as one of the better ASW attacks. Fletcher has armour three, which makes it a lot harder to kill casually.

I voted for the Javelin--it's a good destroyer--but the Fletcher would get second.

Dude, the Fletcher is ausome...In real life that is. Im pretty sure that they drastically underpowered it for the game. In fact the fletcher should have less armor for a better main because they definatly were not known for their good armor;)

i also have to agree, flecher is a great point filler. but my preference goes to the javelin. seriously reckon javelin should have a survivor type ability though.

but that is just me.

well all comes down to balance.

yamoto probly should be extended range 5.

they done what they feel is the best to keep things as balanced as they could

Under Joisey's House Rules, I would have to say that the Javelin is the best destroyer.

Sammy B, because of what that little boat did at Leyte Gulf. It was a tiger trapped in a house cat's body.

It also, while crippled and with guns, delivered the killing blow to the crippled Akagi (rolled two sixes) with two planes based on it and both dice came up one. The guy was like "OMFG!!!!" Akagi promptly killed it an a Fletcher that went in with it... but the point advantage was incredible.

I also seem to roll REALLY lucky with it. I don't doubt that one day I will roll two sixes for Torpedos when charging down a battleship.

Had to vote for the Yukikaze. Its got averate stats in all areas which i'm fine with. Hell i'm even ok with the price. Its the Longlance torps and the Nightfighter i'm interested in. My gaming friends know I tend to roll good torp roles when I need them so they are warry of any heavily torp armed ships I run. And I just love the Longlance and Japanese destroyer/cruiser actions. Plus our game tend to run longer so nightfighter gets used about half the time I play this boat.

Oh and by the way Lonewolf Yamato's 18.1" guns actually would have had a shorter range then the Iowa's 16"ers so no Extended range 5 for it.

Lol, thx Cygnys...I picked up a ton of new stuff just recently. I do belive my new baby is a "Kate" which I have had incredible luck with when attacking BB/BCs lately.

Javelin- you let the Swordfish and the Truculents do the heavy lifting, and you use the Javelins to keep your surface fleet hidden until your subs and planes have made a dent.

Except that Javelin doesn't add all that much protection against air attacks. No destroyer really does. In fact it does very little against a well put together *** carrier group. The only DD that actually helps AA much is the Z20 because it adds just that little bit more in one square.

I don't see how it would keep your surface fleet "hidden" either.
