What's your favorite land-based aircraft in War at Sea? You can give your reason below, whatever that might be — playability, historical performance, or just a cool-looking mini.

Kondor's a better buy I think, but I still voted for the Stuka because they're just plain cool

The SA-Loiter puts the Catalina way ahead of the pack.
And Shadowing is good too.

yeah Catalina's by far the best support aircraft, but I've yet to see or even hear of it killing anything... alternate payload on it almost makes me giggle

I faced a mostly submarine force last night. After getting my clock cleaned the first game (although the Bismarck one shotted both of my Washingtons but I got one of his Bismarcks with a one shot). I took out my destroyers and replaced with Cats, so I had 4 Catalinas. They were a menace to the U-boats. The 3 ASW dice is almost good enough especially if you swarm. I never used the bombs though (try to get a catalina close to anything...Ha!).

Kondor, 5 of them.

I don't have a card handy — how many dice does the PBY get for its alternate payload attack?

I vote Kondor. It's the most useful, albeit most expensive, land based plane.

Catalina, for all possible reasons +1: the Catalina is a seaplane.

Ok, I know it was an amphibian really. Still makes me laugh.

Catalina without a doubt. Loiter, awesome. Shadowing, awesome.

Plus Catalina is my wife's name.

Does she look like Catalina from My Name is Earl? If so you are truly a blessed man

If I played Germans and based my fleet on U-boat wolfpacks I would go for the Kondor. As things stand, I think the Catalina is the most generally all-round useful land-based plane although, as the 1940s song stated,

"You can't get to heaven in a PBY
'cause a PBY don't fly that high."
