Just to let everyone know, there were only to ships of the Canberra in the RAN at any one time. HMAS Australia (D84), was first, then HMAS Canberra (D33). When the Canberra was lost, HMS Shropshire was transferred to the RAN and became HMAS Shropshire. Australia and Canberra were Kent sub-class of the County-class Cruisers and the Shropshire was a London sub-class of the County-class.
So there can be only 2 Canberra's on the board at one time, not the unlimited number as is explained in the rules.

I believe the rulebook mentions that they only put limits on ships that were in classes of four or less. The Kent class had seven, even if only two served in the RAN, so I suppose the others could be the British cruisers of the same class.
Also, whoever did the research for WaS lumped a number of classes together, e.g. note the Canberra is listed as a County-class, making it one of 15 ships, even though these are traditionally broken down into subclasses. By the same token, Sydney is listed as a Leander class, even though the it, Perth, and Hobart were different enough from the original design to be listed in most references as a separate class (compare the models and see what I mean).
My favorite is still the fact that they let you have two Exeters, even though there was only one.

True, but York was the same configuration.

Not exactly. Aside from the fact that they didn't look that much alike and that Exeter's hull was slightly different, their AA armaments were different, York's main armament could elevate 20 degrees higher than Exeter's (this may have changed in 1941), and Exeter carried a more modern mark of torpedo than York. The Royal Navy seems to have found them sufficiently different to put them in separate classes.

I'm sure the AA did change. Exeter had the twin 4" guns when she was sunk by the Japanese in early 1942.
The basic configuration was the same ... for WAS rating/purposes.

To be honest, I use the allowed 2 Exeters - it's only a game, after all. I do find myself wondering where they got some of their information, though. Some of their RN data seems to owe more to Wikipedia () than to Jane's or Conway's.
