Okay, maybe I'm missing something but what's the point in having a Vital Armor of 2 on a unit that has 1 Armor and 1 hull point? I mean, 1 hit or 2 the unit is dead, dead, really dead, right?

I thought that was pretty funny myself.

Your right, there's no point to it. I think Richard Baker even admitted that.

So...type13 subchaser is more stupid
It has armor 1 and vital armor 4...!

I noticed the same thing. Thought maybe you could bring it to bear in some kind of long-term campaign game, where you could repair a ship between sessions unless it's vital armor was exceeded... or unless it didn't lose all its hull points, etc. *Shrug*

Oh, you mean if it was sunk in a port? Say, if it's vital was exceeded it couldn't be raised and repaired? Interesting.

They may add Special Abilities to ships in later sets that are affected by or influence other ship's hull points. I'm guessing that's why the ships with only 1 hull point still have the point listed.

Or not even just in a port, but essentially modeling a ship that's been put out of action but is still afloat -- like the Yorktown at the end of the Midway battle, for example (prior to it finally getting torpedoed and sinking). So maybe the victor might be able to salvage some floating hulks sort of thing.
