The battle started with Japan making a landing on the island beach an rushing in with air surport. The UK made a very strong stand with 4 Brens and several other units. The tide turned quickly for the UK, in their favor, the brens make shots at the planes and with pure luck they took out the planes in the first round.

After Action Report from Maj.Gen. Yumio Nasu, CO Nasu Detachment to Lt.Gen. Masao Maruyama GOC 2nd Division

West Java, December 1941 – One day after landing at Serang our advance on Buitenzorg was blocked by a force of Australian infantry and machine-gun troops supported by artillery dug along the river near Leuwiliang. Immediately a company of the 16th Infantry Regiment conducted an assault across the river. The assault was supported by battalion mortar and machine-gun platoons as well as a section of tankettes from the 2nd Recon Regiment. The preparatory mortar and MG fire was very effective in silencing the Australian machine-gun positions on the enemy’s right flank. Throughout the engagement however continuous accurate and effective enemy artillery fire caused considerable casualties amongst the assault platoons. The tankettes of the 2nd Recon Regiment managed to cross the river on the left flank and pushed into the enemy’s rear overrunning a battery of American artillery. With the enemy guns silenced the assault company finally crossed the river and stormed the high ground beyond, liquidating all remaining Australian troops. I am honoured to report all available units of the Nasu Detachment are now moving quickly to effect the capture of Buitenzorg and cut off the enemy’s escape route from Batavia to Bandung.

AUSTRALIAN AND US FORCES COMPLETELY DESTROYED.

Japanese Attacker:

Type 95 Ha-Go (x3)
SNLF Paratroopers (x9)
Arisaka Rifles (x12)
Imperial Sniper (x3)

British/Commonwealth Defender:

M3 Stuart (x2)
40mm Bofors L60 (x2)
Eagle-Eyed NCO (x2)
Vickers Machine-Gun Team (x3)
Gurkha Riflemen
SMLE No.4 Rifle (x3)

As a wave of Arisaka riflemen crossed open ground toward the objective under covering fire from the snipers, the SNLF paratroopers dropped around the Bofors emplacements. The Stuarts moved up to engage the Japanese infantry while the Ha-Gos remained out of sight.

The resulting firefight was devastating for both sides, although superior numbers began to tell for the Japanese.

One of the Stuarts was damaged by swarming infantry, encouraging the Japanese armor to move up for the kill. Although the Ha-Gos were able to finish off one of the Stuarts, all three Japanese tanks were destroyed and a damaged Stuart was able to limp away.

Final Result: Japanese Victory
Surviving units:
Japan - 2 SNLF Paratroopers, 6 Arisaka Rifles, 3 Imperial Snipers
UK/Commonwealth - 1 M3 Stuart, 1 Eagle-Eyed NCO
