Formations for the Infantry?

Has anyone tried adding formations for Infantry? They could be in Line, Column, or Square with each formation granting special die modifiers to the unit (i.e. a modifier to give Infantry in Square better defense. This might be more applicable if the game system were applied to Napoleonics though.

I don't see anything wrong with using house rules. Most games have flaws that can easily be fixed.

I dont think adding formations would make it too complex for anyone already used to the game mechanics - I think it would add a little flavor to it. There were a number of regular wargames that added this (one side of the counter would be a certain formation, the other side representing another formation) without any particular problems.
