What country do you think has the best made ships in terms of model quality? If there is one specific ship you like please say it.

I'll start. I voted Germany, love all the German ships I have, especially that Scharnhorst.

Yes, however at least America's main guns on their battleships can clear the forward ones:D

I'd say Germany too; they have some very nice looking minis.

I am not sure the quality pieces run along country of origin. The Washington is probably the nicest sculpt. Akagi and Yamato are also nicely done. Richelieu is also an attractive sculpt. Graf Spee is good for its size.

Italy, then Japan [carriers and pagoda-cruiser], then Germany, then France, then USA and last Commonwealth. Sniff.

There was "Akagi" hooked me in this game. However, other model made is kinda off compare to "Akagi".

I think all of the units are well modeled. I think GHQ or is it GQH i can't remember do a little better modeling on their ww2 ships. but I honestly can't say, cause the Bismarck's turret problem seriously pisses me off.

the hood is a really nice looking unit in the game, other american ships look real good while the yamato looks pretty brilliant as well. even with the bismarck's turret problem i might have to say germany as well.

For me it's Yamato,Akagi and Shokaku which really got me hooked to me these are the 3 best units in the game, but then i love the Japanese first and foremost.

German turrets on the Bismarck are a Bismal. IJN carrier decks and Yamato got a great paint job, so I voted for IJN. U.S. cruisers look like their were carved out of bars of soap, so they lose out too.

British ships are second in quality, I'd say.

Hmm, assume we are talking more about the rares (since they are higher in quality of sculpt).

The Scharnhorst is about the best I can think of off-hand -- my Yamato came with a crack on the aft 6" turret, so points docked there. The Iowa is also nice but a bit lacking when compared to the Scharnhorst.

The Hood's none too shabby either. The Shokaku and Shoho are also good sculpts. Akagi suffers because the front struts are solid instead of individual beams, but that's really a technical constraint/ considerations. IJN carriers tend to look very good, whereas the USN and Brit carriers look much more bland.

I like the US ships personally.

Akagi for sure.

I like the German ships, the paint and camo. I had one of my Bismarcks fixed and upgraded with different paint and it looks and functions perfectly. A pin had to be added to fix the guns.

The Japanese ships are also very well done. I like the US ships except that many of them look the same with that awful blue paint that simply isn't accurate anyway. Don't the designers know that they were all balck and white? lol

Bismark...... C
Scharn....... A
Graf Spee... C

I guess 1 out of 3 ain't bad but I give Germany pretty low marks myself. The crusier and destroyer are better than average ones in the game though. The Yukikaze and I-19 hurt Japan's overall grade being as they look like gray bananas.

why does the French cruiser look American anyway? it has the same blue-green deck.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't the Glorie make it to a US shipyard for refits?

I'm glad folks have been getting good Scharns, but both of mine have tilty superstructure syndrome. The plastic is not responsive to water treatment either. Gun clearance issues kind of rule out the IJN and Kriegsmarine for me. I'm all frosty about the Bismark as well. In the end I have to hand it to the Regia Marina. The candy coating is sharp resulting in a very well detailed common destroyer and the rest of the models have no serious deficiencies to my eye. The Vitorio has a nice sculpt compared to other BBs as well.

I would give the Bismarck a B-. THe paint job from the factory is nice. Only down side is the turret. My first one I did not think there was a problem with the turret, mine moved great, when I pulled my second one, I had that problem. Went back to my first one and noticed the barrels were bent a bit upwards.

I had a small problem with only one of mine, I think it is the smoke stack, not sure what you would call it, but it was twisted. Anyways, I dipped it in boiling water for a few seconds, and repeated it several times over and over. wrapped the smoke stack with toilet paper, then took a some plyers, and twisted it. Looks fine to me.

I have to commend AH overall for the paint schemes. They clearly did their homework and devised somewhat 'generic' but appropriate paint schemes for each national navy. The US did paint their ships in shades of gray-blue including a mandatory somewhat dark "deck blue". AH also mimicked the two primary USN camouflage patterns reasonably well (Measure 22 graded system and Ms 32/33 medium/light 3-color pattern). Although the pattern system is strictly a 'generic' representation.

The Japanese did not care about camouflage so they were all a darkish gray and had yellow linoleum decks and some areas of a rust-colored decking compound. Actually, the Japanese had four shades of gray depending on which of the four shipyards they were painted. But that would be getting pretty technical.

AH correctly used the 50/51 dark gray hull/light gray superstructure on the Graf Spee, and did a fair job on the camouflage patterns on the other German ships. His Majesty's Navy in WWII was difficult because there were not any formal guidelines for camouflage. So British ships had all kinds of different schemes throughout the war. AH essentially went with the pre-war neutral light gray with some of the more prominent ships having a camouflage pattern. The 'barber poles' make the Italian Navy stand out, and the French have a medium gray camo scheme. All in all, it makes it easier to differentiate the fleets when playing the game and that is cool.

according to commander marc bragadin, who served in the italian navy in ww2, the barber poles were painted to help the germans identify the italian ships, because they invariably bombed the italians by mistake...not being trained in naval aviation id. the italians figured the british knew what they looked like anyway.....

The two best looking and highest quality in my collection are Hood and Ark Royal. The Italian ships are next, though one of my Duca's is missing the red/white stipes on the stern. A close third are the Japanese models.

My American and German models are a mixed bag.

Of all my models I've loved the paint job on the Itallian ships and the Vittorio Has a very Good Sculpt

Just wondering why every country's subs aways are practically bent in half when I get them. Is this due to the way they are packaged or are they made that way?

I like most of the ships that I have gotten.

I voted for Japan. the Carriers are beautiful.

My subs have been fine, but the IJN, RN, USN, DD's have been bent.

HMS Ark Royal's mast was bent, as was Enterprise's, tho that may be because it has been hot here in California.

Shokaku, Akagi, Princeton, and St. Lo have been perfect.
