Power of the Berzerk card

I was playing MMA recently and we came to the Monster Challenge.

Monster #1 - Challenger
Has High Octane Mutation

Monster #2
Has Berzerk Mutation


Is it valid for Monster #2 to use his Berzerk mutation at the start of the battle, and take those attacks immediately, before the Challenger is able to attack?

Has this been recorded anywhere by the game makers?

I would say that since High Octane Blood allows you to always attack first, that attack would occur before Berserk could be played. Unfortunately, there is no official FAQ for this game.

If I didn't have the High Octane Card, then he should be able to attack first?

The Berserk card reads:
Discard this card for 5 extra attacks at any time during a battle you're in.
and the rules (page 6) say:
Monsters, some military units, and Mutation and Research cards have special rules that override the general rules. In the case of a conflict, follow the rules for that monster, unit, or card.
The phrase "at any time" would imply that you can use it even if it's not your turn.
