We play with a house rule that moves surface ship topedo's from the torpedo phase to the gunnery phase. Before we made the change nary a PT-Boat or Destroyer ever made close enough to a large warship to get a torpedo attack off on the ship. What do you guys think about that? Has anyone else brought up that point? It is nice to give a few more teeth to the smaller ships.

I believe that with the new rules update from 18 July, torpedos and ship guns both fire in the gunnery phase and you may fire both weapon types from the same ship on the same phase. So - what you are doing is now official - congrats! :)

Proposed, tested, tweaked, official "clarification" made that you can download within wotc's A&A downloads section.

Think of it as Air attack phase, Surface attack phase, Submarine attack phase.

Gcrutch, thanks for the info. Looking through it, do BB's now get to shoot their main guns at small ships at range zero? That has changed then from the last couple rule updates. Thanks.

Not sure on that one about BBs firing at 0 range at small ships - I'll have to look that up.

They decided to leave that out. So BB main guns can fire on small ships at range zero. But BB main batteries will still get the -2 penalty for firing on small ships. I guess they thought that was enough of a penalty.

The thing is that with 15+ dice, you're bound to get a couple of sixes, which will definitely damage and probably kill a DD.

I agree with you. But I don't make the rules, I just report 'em. ;)

I think of it as overkill. Will people, i.e. me, still do it? Yeah, now and again. But, I'd prefer using Tertiary and then Secondary guns instead of the Main guns. There's larger ships out there to kill with them.

I imagine the -2 penalty will do for now unless reports come back that say otherwise. If that happens then maybe a new rules update will say otherwise.

in my group we are playng all the new last rules plus same house rules:
- shooting at small ship at any range and with any weapon -1 (so a hit with guns or bomb is only at 5 o 6, a torpedo attack is at -1 torpedo)
- hit = vital armour = ship crippled (with the exception of the Hood), but if the ship is damaged the hit = vital armour = ship destroied
- small ship is crippled only if the hit is = vital arm. (so if a DD with arm. 2, vit. arm.7, hull 2, receive 7 hits is crippled, if receive 6 hit have 1 hull but not crippled but with the next hit is destroyed.
- up to half of the DD/DE can make smoke screeen as SA of Luca Trigo/Javelin at +1 pts.
Thise house rules gives small ship same survivibility.
We are thinking at a -1 to hit cruiser at extreme range

In alternative to smoke screen SA to up to half of the DD/DE in a fleet, same players of my group, prefer a rules that admit to deploy up to half Luca Tarigo for axis fleet and up to half Javelin for allies fleet.
This because my group, normally, play only national fleet.

-2 on each die rolled or -2 from the number of dice rolled?

Per each attack dice. Main guns on a BB only hit on a 6 but the 6 still counts as 2 hits. Also, the update says this doesn't stack with crippled ship penalty. Have to choose the one that's worst. On page 3 of the Update & Clarifications July 18, 07.
