what nation would you pick to include in an Axis and Allies game of the future? I would say Germany, America, the UK, Russia, Japan, China, Neutral/Minor, Italy, and possibly French. What other armies would you choose?

I would like to see the Fins with their own army. They could have little skis on their backs too!! Oh yeah definitely the Finnish Army should be included.

And I like Franco's Spanish Army. They didn't do much fighting but their uniforms were pretty cool.

We couldn't do that. They would kick Russia's pa-too-tee* every time.

Special Finn Rule:
When fighting Russia, Finnish Infantry attack at 5 / defend at 6 and require 2 hits to destroy.

All good. I would replace France with British Commonwealth forces (India/Australia/Canada/S.Africa) or France + exiled allies.

Include realistic C-B-I theatre rules. ie. Chinese guerillas, more territories, etc.

I would start with a polish army in exile, as they had the 4th largest allied army in WW2.

lol. I would add U.S., U.K., U.S.S.R., Germany, Japan, Italy/Romania/hungary/finland(all 1 axis) then it'd be 3v3! :)

France would be about it.

Italy, and the Axis minors were more or less puppets of Germany. Even though Il Duce acted a bit independently on occasion Italy, Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria were more or less under German control. The Italian economy during WWII paled in comparison to the "major" powers. In my opinion, this would cause a player to choose Italy last, unless there were other benefits to offset this issue (such as limiting German involvement in Africa and the Baltic, or making the Germans dependent upon the Italian surface fleet in the Med).

I would separate the Commonwealth forces from British control, since many of them were not controlled as tightly as the Axis minors. While they worked within the general war effort "grand strategy", there were allowed much more leeway than their Axis counterparts. Howver, the "Commonwealth" player would have to split some of his/her money with the British player.

China, definitely would be it's own country, although, much like Italy, would have a relatively weak economy and a predominantly infantry fighting force.

If the game started early enough in the war, it might even be possible for India and Iraq to come in on the Axis side (simulating a successful coup).

France would be the only major European player to also be included in the game as they were one of the few to have a decent economy, and a sizeable army/navy/air force.

I think the A&A games are done all wrong when it comes to nations. They should lower the amount of units the axis gets in exchange for giving them a third nation, raising the total income on par with the allies. That could make it more balanced.

Agreed, however, the same might be accomplished by simply raising the value of traditionally Italian-held provinces. The secondary problem is that with a "grand-scale" game such as A&A, with a relatively small European area there's probably not enough physical room on the board to fit both.

It always surprised me, considering how badly Hitler craved a source of oil other than Rumania, how little value the Middle East has in-game. Stalingrad really was about more than the Russian-leader's namesake...it was a strategic point to help secure a relatively oil-rich area, and potentially stage into the Middle East.
