Im just wondering if there is any plans to make an online version. I f any of you ever played piratesCSG online you know what in getting at. IMHO I think this game would lend itself well to this format; imagine all the people on these boards being able to set up maps, buy and trade digital minis, get our mini fix, etc. Id like to know your opinions on this also.

No.
I see no need to maintain paralell collections.

I like it but only if it came with a map making utility for online play. Then that would be great it would allow me to get my fix even when I am overseas.

I would rather they make a computer game with all the units on it, and allow people to Mod/make there own units also. Then they could release a patch with new units as they come out.
Make it a multi player online game just like the table top version, so people could play no matter where you live, maybe like 4 vs 4 max players or some thing.
I said this when Axis and Allies 1st came out because my brother is in the military and we would like to be able to play axis and allies minis from time to time over the internet.
Also they could have a type of score board, that could rank you depending on who you battled and won.

As far as the buying and selling digital minis, forget that...
No way anyone is going to pay more money for each digital mini.

I like it.
I'd also like to see hidden placement of enemy units and the unknown of enemy unit types.

Just show infantry until a unit a gets closer. Then expose the type.

If a sniper deploys Hidden, then it is not exposed at all until it fires. May need to limit them to 1 per 100pts.

Automatic rolls and cover impacts from the server. It would be great.

Theoretically such a thing would be rather easy to do in Flash or something, once the hurdles of a hex-based grid are figured out. I've no idea what an algorithm for line-of-sight would look like, or I would have hacked one out a year ago.

Dice rolling and hits is trivial (although it would be nice if I could puzzle out the probabilty formulas), it's the movements and LOS that's crazy difficult.

I think it would be cool to be able to play online, but I cant see wizards ever making this happen. Wouldnt this sort of game cut into their profits?

No it would actually boost them by selling digital minis online. think about a case sized lot for 50. I like the idea of being able to select map layouts, terrain, army sizes, map sizes etc. And have it so quick matches would randomly select a battlefield for you. Sponsered Tourneys. Plus it would be a place all of us fanatics could get together and play that live far from each other

Someday when this game finds its end, they will certainly do a digital version of some sort.

Anybody remember the old table-top/floor versions of Star Fleet Battles?
Anyone play the version for the computer? ;)

The real hurdle will be a respectable AI. Anyone play A&A for computer?
Even though there would be an online version, you'd have to have the solo version too.

A&A, Yes.
The AI was a joke.
