I have just read all 12 preview articles and here is my impression of the game so far:

The thing that really makes me happy is that it seems they made an effort to correct the flaws from Risk 2210. In particular, the ability to add an sixth epoch will help to remove the "whoever goes last in turn 5 wins" flaw in Risk 2210. If you spread yourself too far in epoch 5 and then someone stops time you probably won't win.

I love the underworld idea because it provides a mechanism for people to recover from a bad start. If everybody picks on Joe in the first epoch and wipes out half his army then Joe will quickly take over the underworld and be back in force later in the game.

The bad thing is that so far it looks TOO similar to Risk 2210. Obviously I have not played the game yet, but so far I'm not convinced that its worthwhile to have both games in my collection.

Well, it's similar but not too much the same. The God <-> Commander, along with the card mapping does make it look the same, but the game mechanics for their usage are very different, from the previews. The War God cards appear to be very similar to the standard 2210 Commander cards, but the some of the other card effects and duration are as different as you can get.

My initial impression from the previews is that there is increased card-play, as it is easier(?) to get the cards (from Labours), and the restrictions on their play appear to have been relaxed.

I would probably be tempted to buy the game.

Personally I own 2210 and the original Risk, as well as the Lord of the Rings edition. Godstorm seems, to me, to be a refinement of the two. The commanders and gods are closely related, and I admit the card and energy/faith thing is a bit too close for comfort. The labors, though, come across as an attemp to fulfil the missions in the LotR version. I think this is a wonderful idea, and the differences between the gods are compelling enough that they are distinct figures. The underworld and moon are similar, but the underworld allows for the loser above ground to conquer down under, thus allowing a constant suppy of "dead" troops back to support the living. I loved 2210 and the LotR Risk, but I plan to pick up a copy of GodStorm at the end of the week. The ideas for the game are close to those of 2210, but different enough to make GodStorm so much more than a sellout.

It is very similiar to Risk 2210 AD, and as I rarely play that I'm not so sure about this one. It does look like an improvement over 2210, and I do like the theme more. However, I don't know if I want to spend the money for a game I might just play every once in a while. It looks fun, but considering all the other boardgames I already play and enjoy like Age of Mythology, Axis and Allies, LotR Risk and others I just don't know if it's worth the investment.
