I'm really new to the game and this happened at our last session.

Situation:
Zombie (four on planet) attacked by Clone. Macron and Oracle ally with Clone (total 11 on Mothership). Zombie plays N while Clone attacks with 8.

Clone, Macron and Oracle move ships to planet. Zombie loses four but uses power to place one on each of her remaining colonies.

Does Zombie still claim compensation?

Yes, you can claim compensation. The wording is that for every ship you lose, you can claim compenstaion. The Zombie's power is that every ship that has lost doesn't go to warp (IIRC). So you have lost (and thus can claim compensation), but your power allows to you to escape going to warp.

the wording in the AV version for compo is that you gain compo for every ship lost to warp. The zombie card states that there ships NEVER go to warp. There for do NOT gain compo.

Zombie doesn't believe in negotiating- at least when military terms are involved- if ya kno what i mean ;) ;)

We have always played by that interpretation as well. The balance for that is that Zombie can ally with defensive players to get cards with impunity - and always with 4, as he never loses them to the warp, even if the defense fails.

Incidentally, another great strategy is (as was posted earlier) for Zombie to negotiate, as the Zombie has a stronger negotiative position due to the fact that failed negotiations don't hurt Zombie as they don't lose 3 ships.

While the Zombie is not a great alien power (and it's strategies are fairly starightforward - i.e. ally at all times and use Negotiate to your advantage) if played well, it can sneak up on people.

NOTE: When playing against Healer, Zombie loses effectiveness, as the Healer often (by his power) "gives" everyone Zombie-like powers.
