Is fog supposed to be treated exactly the same as smoke?
I was going through the rulebook and I donīt see any difference.
I would have thought airplanes were unable to attack targets covered in fog but that doesnīt seem to be the case.
So, is there anything Iīm missing regarding fog in the rules?

You got it right ... Fog = smoke = concealed

My gaming group has been thinking about how to simulate "fog," and we've come up with two options ... make a cardboard screen to separate and hide the map for 2-3 turns or write down on a paper sector map where our ships are ... then reveal them on the actual map after a couple of turns. Any ideas?

The rules are a bit vague about how Fog and Smoke would affect airplanes. Since there is no difinitive rule about it just treat the concealment rules the same for ships and aircraft.

To simulate you can do a couple fo things:
1) Find a picture of smoke or fog on the internet and crop it to fit into one of the 2X2 squares on the map. Place it on the square and put your ships on top of it.
2) Take a cotton ball and (carefully) stretch it out to cover the sqaure area and lay it over your ships. It looks cool but sometimes the little towers wrap around the cotton and you gotta pick it off.

I think the rules state that attacks within the smoked sector result in a concealment roll of 6. planes are in this sector too.

Until there are better rules then yes...I guess it would conceal planes. If you want to use common sense then Planes are not concealed, but the ships they are attacking get the saving throw.
