SD KFZ 251, MG 42 Overwatch

If I have a SD KFZ 251 in overwatch with a MG-42 mounted (FIGHTING PLATFORM!) and an enemy solider passes into an overwatched hex:

Can I make the overwatch attack with my MG-42?

My off the cuff answer is NO; however, it might be good to run this question by the design team to see what their historical interpreation of the Fighting Platform SA is (and it subsequent interaction with the Expanded Rules)

Your answer is correct.

What matters in this situation is which units are on overwatch. The passenger can make an overwatch attack only if the passenger was designated as being on overwatch. Either or both of them can be on overwatch, but placing just the transport on overwatch doesn't allow the passenger to make the attack (or vice versa).

It is important to note, however, that only vehicles, the Flak 36, and soldiers with the Relocate special ability can use overwatch. The MG-42 in your example is not an eligible overwatch unit in any situation.

Hi Steve,

thanks for the clarification. Some of the questions I post here are less for "Yes/No" answers and more for "deisgner intent". My previous question on the 88mm FlaK 36 was an example of designer intent question even though the original answer was different.

My question on FIGHTING PLATFORM was "what was the designer intenet" on the interaction of a very real historic application of the SD KFZ line with MG-42 mounts with the new Expanded Rule of Overwatch. Since Overwatch was not restricted to target types I wanted to make sure any errata and clarifications in the future set would address Special Abilities from Set I as they interact with rules from set V.5.
