What unit is your favorite?

There are tons of units out there. Almost all of my faves are in the new set. My fave from the Allies is:
1.Guards T-34/85

My fave from Axis is:
1.King Tiger

That's my opinion though, but many people say that massive swarms of cheap tanks and aircraft can destroy any one of these.

AXIS: Type 95 Ha-Go (forest runner is very effective at enabling maneuver in areas other units must roll to get through...easy to out flank allied vehicles en masse)

ALLIES: Canadian Eagle Eyed NCO (Directs medium range firepower out to 6 hexes...massive infantry firepower advantage to be sure).

I like the look of the pre-war tanks like the Char B1 bis, the M3 Lee (yup!), the M3 Stuart, Ha-Go, etc... Old school is cool!

I don't like to spend points on the big heavies... except the SU-152 Beastkiller!

My favorite infantry combo is the Canadian Eagle-Eyed NCO with Bren Gunner.
But every time I play it I feel I am slipping into powergamming and it scares the heck out of me!

I wouldn't feel too bad about that. If you're fighting the Germans, chances are your opponent has a Hamster, so you're probably not winning too many initiatives. Bren Gunners are a lot less effective if they're going second.

I know I've wrote this before in this forum, but asking which unit is my favorite is like asking me which of my children is my favorite. I will also note that the poll is only asking 'favorite' not the favorite of Axis nations and favorite of Allied nations. Now, having said all that as the preamble.....

I know of no other unit Allied or Axis that has the effect of causing opponents to avoid that part of the map where that unit is....

The German Veteran Tiger. It's big gun, plus 'crack shot' are deadly enough. Add in it's significant defense numbers with Superior Armor and this unit dominates the board. The Easy eight, Pershing, Croc, Centurion, IS-3, ... none of those have had that fear factor in it.

Perhaps the IS-3 should strike that sort of fear as the Vet. Tiger does. The IS-3 has the best Superior armor at +3, a very respectable gun, AND it can once a turn do a devistating anti-infantry attack.

Curiously though, the IS-3 was not the unit that jumped into mind when I thought of my favorite Allied unit. My favorite unit is really one that I use in every American build; M4 Sherman. We all know it's strengths and downsides. But this unit really [in my mind at least] is simply the lead unit in what basically amounts to a combined arms team which always includes Garands, RD Capt., 81 mm Mortars. Depending on my whims and the terrain faced, I'll rotate in Rangers, Paratroops, Jeeps, Flamethrowers, Bazookas.

Speaking of which..... GAME ON!

Well, let's see what happens when you throw one anti-tank infantry in there for both sides.:) The ISU 152's AI numbers are much better.

Of all the pieces out to date, based on LOOKS...I'd go with the NEW Tiger I and a toss-up between the NEW T-34 or the NEW Cromwell.
Good detail and paint.
As for infantry...I've always thought that the Brit Defiant Paras looked mean.

Forgot to add this in my last post...

I really like the look of the NEW American units (size, detail, paint)...with the exception of the basic Sherman. Sure, they added the white star, but like the old one, the paint is a shiny green rather than a nice flat olive drab like the other units. What gives?:confused:

For looks, I really like the Easy 8 and the Pnzr III - lots of different colors on these pieces. The ugly award goes to the Te-Ke (hairy hand translated). Then again there are those "rares" that have one color and some wash.

For gaming, I use quite a bit of different pieces depending on my mood, what my opponent has talked about or watched earlier, etc.

I agree about the Panzergrenadier - same Mauser only he rides in halftracks. He should have the same stats but just cost a little bit more so he can pay for the taxi ride.:)

The Germans need Headshot to counter the American tanks high AI values - that SA is just another weight on the scales to try to balance the pieces.

After the Base Set and with the introduction of the SE Paras, the balancing issues became out of control. Shermans help to counter the SSPGs defence and then after that other countries got their 5/5s units and the Axis tanks retained their 7-7-6 AI defence. So, don't feel bad about getting German snipers in your army.

I like the mortar as it doesn't need a spotter (any US unit will do) to get improved indirect fire. I also like the vanguard ability to get to point blank range (and hopefully rear shots) against those Tigers and King Tigers.
