Allies: Chinese T-26 VERY UNRELIABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Early war the soviet AT rifle is a decent deterrant to 3 def German armour. Especially if they are already disrupted.

I won a tournament because my opponent was contemptuous of my
Royal Engineer. I close assaulted his Tiger. Game over.

I say the worst unit is any vehicle that is larger than the original from version 1.0. Sorry, but couldn't resist.;)

I liked the Chinese T-26... I mean it could kinda deal with the majority of Japanese tanks. I really like the idea of the Soviet one in the new set! I cannot wait to trade or pull one...

I used to think like that.
Try finding a T-26 on E-bay. Got mine finally in a booster. Yes, I still buy V1.0 despite poising to buy V2.0.
And I like the Romanian Antitank Grenadier. They performed well the few times I played them.
Now the Lebel Grenadier...nope. I rocked w/ them against PZIV Elites a couple weeks ago. I'll never crap on them again. Against men they suck, however...but against light armor, that's another matter.

Amen Brother. Can I get an Amen?

There are so many that come to mind, Lebel grenadier, Te-Ke tankette, hunting sniper, Panzer IIC. But, I think the worst ones are those that cost the same or more than a better unit of the same country. A couple examples are the Messerschmidt Bf-109 and the Azad Hind Fauj.

Japanese Tanks... I'm sorry, but even if your enemy is a blithering moron, these tanks just dont cut the mustard for the most part.

...seem to me to hold a candle to the worthlessness of observers, especially the FO jeep, which can't even get out of harm's way during its assault phase.

How you are a threat to 3 frontal-defense tanks with 4 dice+Inaccurate is a mystery to me. The Lebel is a candidate for worst piece in the game. Not a viable AT weapon, not so great at killing soldiers either. And forget hitting anything when you're disrupted with that Inaccurate SA. Maybe for 2 points, big maybe.

I tend to play rather historical battles, so I can find good in almost every unit. Units like the Panzer II, Volksturm, PIAT gun, Lebel Grenadier, etc., are pretty bad, but if you go with year restrictions or with a particular scenerio, these pieces add a nice touch (especially the PIAT in Market-Garden scenerios...poor British paratroopers....heavy armor vs PIAT:eek: ).
However, I can find no good whatsoever in......
the FO Jeep.
11 points, 1/1 defense, only gives one extra dice to aircraft, can only move during the movement phase. I can not find one reason, historical or otherwise, why I would ever field the FO Jeep. The one time I did, I couldn't use it for fear of it getting killed by ANYTHING that roles 2 dice against vehicles.

I've had great success with the Type 95 Ha-Go in jungle and forest terrain. They're cheap, they move in and through terrain barely accessible to superior armor, and they enable maneuver en-masse to the rear for multiple shots.
Anyway, my useless picks:
AXIS: Nashorn (cool offensive capability, really poor defense against aircraft, partisans and airborne troops)
ALLIES: DD Sherman (Looks really cool...it is still just a Sherman...real advantage is that it gets blown up by German Tanks on land AND water...what a bargain).

I play historical limits:
MY lebels performed adequate - killing occasionally an Elite/Panzer 38 (t) - often PZ II/s (both versions)
Did never play the Romanina AT Grenadier, but Think with CA 9 it will perform good enough against 1941 Russian armor.
As I apply an -1 modifier to the US Mortar when non spotter/commander does the spotting the FO Jeep acts perfectly in his role - simply don't expect he lives (occasionally he does when in woods or hills). tabing out an 9 point imp sergeant/WM OLT or the like is well worth the points invested... And the Jeep IS fast (once i managed to take out an Arisaka with his 5 dice)
In big Eastern front battles I do actually use the AT rifle - for its points it IS a threat to all small/non tank Vehicles and I use my big dice tanks against big units ---
The more I play the more I come to the conclusion that ALL units have their niche to play - it is all the more fun when both sides include some crappy units in their build - some weird and entertaining situations have arisen...
For example Japan-China: China uses its MG to great sucess against Japanese Armored cars and HA-Go tanks ;)

I have played almost every type of scenario. However, I have never used the FO Jeep or the Lebel Grenadier. US super mortars don't really need him and the Lebel although intrigues me never makes the final cut. I guess in certain situations and maps he might be a little effective. I just haven't come across one yet.

FO Jeeps with Corsair BOMBS and Straffing runs with the P-38.
The FO Jeep can get there early enough to catch 'em out of position. In general it sucks though.
My #1 pick for useless game piece is the American FO Jeep. ANY American unit can spot for the 81mm Mortar. It's only advantage it gives is with an airplance, but even that isn't much.
Now, my 'correction' for ANY spotter unit is to incease its spotting range out to 8 or 10 hexes. I would think any spotter worth his salt could spot enemy units out to a kilometer (assuming of course that each hex represents about 100 meters) In addition, I would give each infantry spotter the same ability as the snipers, you can only hit them when adjacent.
Now, of course, since these mods make the spotter a really dangerous piece to the opponent, the cost would have to go up. Say from 9 pts. to 12 or 15.

I used a horde of Lebels to ok effect against German infantry (even disrupting and later killing an SS Stormtrooper with one, and another one disrupting a 251 Transport from mid range :) ), but that was due to a lot of luck. I used them because I needed frenchmen for a scenario (they were my most numerous infantry). Lebels are not totally useless, but it gets close.
Personally I think Piats are equally useless.. cause they are so darn expensive.
Now the FO jeep.. I use it as a proxy for.. a Jeep. Because like said its totally useless. I must agree there. I think the spotter upgrade shouldnt have been worth more then +2 points. Not the +- 7 points it 'costs' now. German/Russian spotters for +- 5 points (or 6 with superior camouflage?).. I think they would be used then.
people always say (whenever i say how bad the l3/35 and panzer 2 are) that they ae actually quite good, but whenever i use them they get roasted by pretty much anything... so i don't use them

You have to have enough of them...concentration of fire. Once they get disrupted, it get's a lot easier. And then there's luck, which I had in abundance that day.
Considering how badly I used to trash them, I owed them their due after that last game, which was a historical scenario.

I'd say any unit that doesn't have the AI dice/odds of threatening a 5/5 infantry piece. Unless you're playing the posted official scenarios, you're more than likely to encounter tons of 5/5s. Any more though, the scenarios are where it's at.

I´d also go for the Volkssturm as the most useless Unit...same Price as the Fortress Defender, but only 1 against Vehicles (Fortress 2) and missing the "entrenched" of the Fortress Defender. Considering historical Limits its ´42 (Fortess) against ´44 (Volkssturm).
