I have heard many say they are buying from their FLGS, but how.why would anyone do that? I know its good to patronage your local store and all, but when I called the store I go to, they sell them all for retail. 10% off for a case. That's 118 dollars for a case. I just ordered a case AND a starter from an online site, and total with shipping was 93 dollars and some change. How in the world can FLGS hope to complete with such a dramatic difference in prices?

I think some people like to support their favorite gaming venues, even though it means they pay a little more. Otherwise our favorite stores go bye-bye.

Because they offer:

- a place to play

- free Game Zone stuff

- a place to drag new people into the game

- tea for free (:D )

... all that for just a slightly higher price (which can often be reasoned down as well).

Whenever we play at the store it is usually a tournament. There is an entry fee so its not really free Combat Zone stuff imo. I will continue to support the store, by buying a booster when I go, but I will not make large purchases there as it would cost me around 40 dollars more for the same product.

Where do you get tea for free??!!

This is a good point. One of my FLGS owners always seems to make time to chat with just about everyone that comes in and has an inclination to chat. Great Guy, BTW. Anyway, he is usually quite "in the know" on AAM and related topics. I've asked him on many an occasion how he is able to compete with on line retailers. His answer, he can't. He sells cases of the new stuff for $112.00, that's out the door, tax and all. I think it's $105.00 pre tax.

I stopped in Wednesday night and he told me he had only ordered two cases of the new stuff, as he wasn't sure if it was going to go or not.

I sold him a set of around 110 or so 1/2400 scale WWII GHQ & C-in-C miniature ships that I had painted (BTW, he's asking $1500.00 for the set) and I was telling him that I was thinking of doing some FOW tanks myself and trying that. He said "there's a lot of people already doing that."

Back to the topic though, he has never had any good things to say about WotC, as far as supporting the FLGS. I asked him why WotC even bothers with things like the Combat Zone Kits when they cut the legs out from under the local store owners by allowing on line retailers to under sell them on both individual boosters and on cases.

When WotC cut the price on the old boosters last year when they went from $14.99 to $9.99, he was ticked! He held it back pretty good, but in talking with him, it was apparent that he was left hanging on having paid more on his current stock than what the new retail was. In effect, causing WotC no loss of money when they cut the price, but he was the one who got stuck with the price cut right out of his own pocket...nice.

The other FLGS I go to used to sell the old boosters for $11.25 everyday regular price. It was nice, I used to get cases of WaS there for just about $20 more than online retailers. I asked them about selling the boosters at $11.25, and they said they couldn't sell them otherwise.

We don't get free tea, but everything else Latro said is true.
I don't

I don't ALWAYS buy my stuff from the FLGS, but I do make an effort to support him. In fact, we have two people that sell A&A minis in this town, and I sometimes buy stuff from the other store just to spread the love.:D

Well i have always supported my Flgs by buying my cases and boosters and starters there . They allow us to have game area free of charge no entry fee or any other type of payment. And as in reference to the combat zone kits well they stink by an large but at least its better than nothing. And occasionially we get some good stuff ,like winterized basic 2 inch style maps from able to dog

Its also a matter of being able to TOUCH a product. Seeing it in action also helps. But really, a newb to the game DOES NOT get into it because of the internet. Just not enought there to justify buying. Reality creates value which sells the game. Its hard to trust internet sales too.

I told my local game store what I was planning to buy and where I was going to get it. Then I told him I would buy it from him for 10% more. I don't buy inventory he already holds; rather, he confirms "cash" as credit card cost % of revenue and then buys the stock on teh next visit to the distributor.
