That's interesting in the sense that it makes me wonder if the factory thaat is making them has inconsistancies or is it more inconsistancies between opinions of what improvement is.
I haven't purchased any to compare myself, I'm just taking everyone else's word and their does seem to be a large varying degree of opinions which I guess is to be expected.

Did you buy them or were they provided to you?
Do you have an M18 Hellcat? Which one is bigger, the M18 or the M4A1 Sherman?

Not to be a jerk or just a guy who flips everything around... but Detail exactly HOW the new stuff is better....
I really need to post pics of my new Carro Armato and my old ones. Really, for me it feels like they improved things no one complained about and we lost some things that really impress me early on in getting into this game. Meh, I really am a newb compared to most of you all tho'. I had joined just before the price dropped, and when that happened it just fueled my new hunger for the game.
Now I just feel like a wet blanket has been tossed on that burning passion.... Its not out, but it definately did not help.

Before this set came out... I had high hopes. You can see it in my posts. I bought a case on release day... not overly impressed. I am impressed by how many are... thats great. I just hope QUALITY of the models improves for North Afrika set. This set kinda shot my hopes in the leg. I can still move, just more cautious now.

I mean the minis are a big improvement, particularly the planes which I didn't much care for and now it looks like someone has spent time on the detail. I'm not suggesting these are 3000 times better, but they are a huge improvement on the old detail on the minis.
I'm not to crazy for the 5 to a booster scheme but the junkers and the P-51 are much cooler to look at now.

I'm just gonna point one thing out. The opening post was by a mod. Take that as you will.
If there is only one unit I would want from this new 39-45 set... it'll be the Spitfire. Aside from that I think I'm gonna go clear out some warehouses of the old stuff.

Though I appreciate your perspective, try not to allow a single piece to be the basis of a wholesale condemnation of the entire game.
Keep your passion for the game. You won't regret it.
Happy gaming:-)

Oh we'll keep passion for the old game, not this abomination.
consider this a calling out of wizards of the coast, they can either choose to ignore this (and probably will) or they can buck up and show us where the hell they got the idea that we wanted bigger tanks with comparably less detail and junky paint jobs. Oh and where exactly we asked them to utterly ignore us as far as the M18 Hellcat is concerned. Sure you listened concerning the spitfire, but that was just because of a total f*ck up on your part.
I hope this set tanks. Pun intended.
If North Africa isn't back in the old scale you can forget about me buying that one either.

Fellas, you guys are going through exactly the same thing as everyone who started this game with the original base set did. The issues that seem to get fouled up in this game are very easily correctable. That's what keeps a lot of people hopeful for the next set, because they can't possibly imagine that these mistakes could not be fixed. Yet they continue to persist with each new offering.
This set is just like the five preious sets, which is just like the WaS set. There are some good things, some fair to mediocre, and some really crappy and disappointing stuff. The game is good beneath all of the screw ups, and that's another thing that keeps the flame of hope burning.
You just have to take the game for what it is and always has been up to this point. A good, potentially great, light wargame with components that are inconsistent and of a quality generally considered to be less than par for what most of it's more serious buyers are accustomed to seeing and/or purchasing.
As for me, I like the game enough to keep hanging around, but I'm quite used to all of the noise about how the next set is really going to set the world on fire. They have established a regular pattern of over promise, under deliver. The dashed hopes and dejected feeling you guys are vocalizing are the same ones that made me so Curmudgeonly!:D
It doesn't get any better than this fellas!:D

Oh brother,
So because I'm a moderator I'm not allowed to have an opinion on the minis? I've been an Avalon Hill fan since the early 80s. I've said good things and critical things of AH since my time working these boards and will continue to do so.
If you don't like the new set fine, I don't get any money convincing you otherwise. I DO own a gaming store however, and I can tell you these minis are much better looking than the originals and they could sell well just based on that.

Well this set probably won't 'tank'. North Africa and Eastern Front won't be in the old scale and their release is more or less certain at this point. I understand the ill feelings toward the brand, but it is going to survive. I've seen people come and people go.

So you hope this game tanks. Not that I didn't know that already I could just read one of the many similar posts you and other members keep repeating. You are entitled to complain and be upset just don't post the same thing over and over in multiple threads. Just try to tone it down a bit for the sake of the new players who are coming on here after picking up this game for the first time. A negative community sure isn't helping out the game (and this game needs all the help it can get).
I still haven't been to the FLGS to pick up a starter set and half a case. I sure hope I can pull another Zero (even if it is a navy plane).

Hey, if Mod Sinister is happy with his re-painted 3 bladed prop Mustang, that's great. It's all about being happy with the "new" stuff.
As for me, I finally have 2 new CORRECT Spitfires to place in the original bases. Now that's "new"!!
I'd say clearing out those warehouses are your best bet. That's the good stuff there. :)
