Thank You

In the starter are new 3 inch hex maps, rules and counters. The figures are a Panzer III, Cromwell IV, T-34/76, M4A1 Sherman, Mauser Kar 98K, "Red Devil" Captain, Panzerfaust 30, M1 Garand Rifle, MG42 and Bazooka.

I think it is quite a good deal.

I agree. Four tanks, six infantry, paper hex maps, dice, rules. Not bad for the price.
Two of the tanks in the starter are 'rare' in the boosters, but 'rare' means just about diddly now.

But please, just be sure to buy a few boosters along with your starter if you don't have any AAM yet. Because if you don't you'll find the Axis'll get thrashed with only 1 Axis light tank against 3 medium Allies tanks :) More so since the Axis comes leaderless...

What, an MG42 can't take out a Cromwell?:D

Actually the NEW starter set is WORSE than the old one:
Why?
Simple:
the old had:
SS-HSF
Panzer IV G
MG 42
Mauser
Pak 38
Red Devil Captain
M4A1 Sherman
Vickers MG Team
M1 Garand Rifle
6-Pounder ATG
Bazooka
and a surprise rare
Which accounts for 1 rare 6! uncommon and 5 common
While trading in 2 uncommon and a common for a rare seems to be a good deal first, it isn't. Panzer III/F (a former uncommon piece!) and Cromwell are fixed, so soon there will be plenty of them around - making them equal to a "good" uncommon - some uncommon are already harder to get ... IMHO they are quite "devalued".
But the major complaint with the new starter is that its NOT instantly playable.
While the old starter had 5 pairs of pieces (Commander/Rifleman/Tank/ATG/MG + Bazooka + a rare basically with the 11 fixed pieces you could do a balanced game = good for newbies to learn the game) the new starter has only the following two obvious pairs:
Mauser - Garand
Bazooka - Panzerfaust
NOT enough to play a balanced game
Germany get a MG - the Allies a Commander - not really balanced...
Even if you put away the Cromwell and the T34 - The Panzer III/F is no match for the Sherman.
So MY complaint is that the new starter is NOT a suitable starting point to learn the game

So MY complaint is that the new starter is NOT a suitable starting point to learn the gameIt is if the Axis player "captures" one of the Allies three tanks. Had the Sherman or T-34 been swapped out for a Pz4f2, the "Starter" would have truly been so.

It would have been better if the Pz IV would have replaced the Pz III. (M2AO predicted that, but ultimately he was wrong :()
Add the SSHSF instead the MG, skip the Bazooka and Panzerfaust for another Garand + Mauser and the starter would have been "perfect" (or as perfect a 2.0 starter could be ;))

But the New starter is a Good deal if you take into account that it's scaled to the upcoming AAM sets, and has 3" maps which is the new AAM standard. Buy a few boosters, get some units to fill out the Axis side, and get playing! :)

? - so getting the maps makes the unit selection better ???
1 starter for each map pack you need is enough
Compared to the old starter you get less useful units - just my opinion
Though I admit if you are starting the game its am must to buy exactly 1 starter.
I don't hope its to scale with the upcoming 2" size maps (hope to come) ;)

Umm, no..... getting the maps don't make the unit selection better (where did you read that?)
I just would really recommend the new starter to new players instead of pushing the old starter on them as you seems to do, for the reasons I stated.
Or maybe you're just being nostalgic, or still cranky about the Set VI stuff... :)

I am NOT wanting to push the old on new players , its just that concerning the unit selection the old one was better. It would make no sense for new players to get old scale units...
And Yes I am STILL angry about the scale change tragic mishap ... (no pun intended ;))

Funny thing is I had the starter for months and just never realized that it was a III not a IV. Not so much a failed prediction as just not paying attention in the first place.

Has there ever been any talk about changing the contents of the starter after a certain period? ... or adding a second starter? Just take another selection of often seen units like the basic infantry from Japan, USSR, UK and add a few vehicles and you're ready to go (... new maps perhaps?).
Shouldn't cost too much to "develope" and would be interesting for a lot of people.

A good starter? Something like this
M3 Light Tank (US)
M4A1 Sherman (US)
Vickers Machine-Gun Team (UK)
"Red Devil" Captain (US)
SMLE No.4 Rifle (UK)
Bazooka (US)
Panzer III Ausf. F (German)
Panzer IV Auf. F2 (German)
MG-42 Team (German)
SS Hauptsturmführer (German)
Mauser Kar 98k [x2] (German)
Panzerfaust 39 (German)
And for the Easter Front a seperate, topic related starter.
