Why do know German tanks have AP ( armor piercing ) rounds? This is just simply silly! Most German tanks if not all at one time or another fired devastating AP rounds. Yet this game does not give them this special ability.
There must be a reason for this in the game. Ether WOTC needs to do there historical RnD a lot better or it is another case of "short changing" Axis forces or maybe a little of both!

Take a look at the AV stats of the German panzers and you know the reason why.

As a matter of fact, I think WotC did an amazing job coming up with correct SA for their units. German tanks have high enough anti-tank values to represent their high firepower already, and while you're at it if we're to give AP rounds to the Germans, why not give it to every tank! No... it's fine as it is, imho. Germany have their Veteran Tiger, it's enough of a powercreep already :)

But hey, feel free to house-rule it in your gaming group, and tell us how it goes! (I predict your Axis tanks will win everytime, with AP-rounds on all of them, though, which isn't very balanced...)

The allied powers developed the first good shaped charge armor piercing rounds, that the tanks were equipped with.

I was not referring to HE ( high explosive ) shaped charges. Thats a different issue. I am pointing out that AP ( penetrator ) rounds are not used. Besides the Germans had HE rounds as well. Duh!!!!! :D

Nobody mentioned HE!

As most here agree, Axis tanks have very good AV just as they should. No point making them even better than they were by adding the AP SA. I'm sure you can differentiate between the use of AP, which were the normal rounds, and the use of the AP SA in the game which clearly refers to the HEAT rounds and not to the AP rounds ;).

Historically speaking the Germans did have some AP rounds. They used tungston in some of their 28mm AT rounds which did some amazing things to early Soviet armor. But the Germans lacks the mineral resources to really use special metals. Instead, they focused on having high velocity guns and superiour optics. The end results are the same, one dead enemy tank.

From a gaming perspective, the Germans have nothing to worry about when it comes to killing capacity. They do just fine!

The AV rounds of the germans are good enough to don't need AP rounds.

Everybody used standard solid shot with a small explosive filler durring the war. After encountering the armor on French tanks in the 1940 campaigne they did begin a limited production run of 50 mm APCR. This put the 45 cal gun on par with the 60 cal gun. The post earlier that refered to the 28 mm Gerlich squese bore guns is correct. The penetrator, which was 20 mm IIRC, was made out of tungston and that was a very scarce material in Germany at that time.
