That looks very fun. I think the IJN should pull it out though.

Its a kit retail stores get to provide to their players that come in to play the game, it a mix between the land based game and the naval game. There are minis, terrain tiles, scenario sheets, maps...

Go to the Avalon Hill homepage and click on the "Combat Zone" menu item. It will take you to the page that describes the DCI tournament system. It is most famous around here for running the 'Magic:The Gathering' card game tournaments. My FLGS looked up the WaS tournament, but it required a minimum of eight players to qualify.

Interesting that WizKids just changed their tournament system to require a minimum of 8 players to qualify for prize support too. Coincidence or Conspiracy? I wonder.

Combat Zone kits are purchased by yout FLGS and usually include a free map, a terrain hex (Or in the WaS case an island) and a free miniature from the set. Some times the minis are repaints of exisiting minis, but they are unique and collectable and look cool when you have one and someone else doesn't. (bragging rights)

The CZ also includes the sceanario published one a card stock double sided sheet in vibrant color with a list of the pieces needed and all the info needed to play the scenario.

When WaS launched I got a free Fletcher Destroyer from a CZ pack. I think there was an island too...

Avalon Hill avidly supports the land game with CZ releases bi-monthly. For example, I just got a Sherman tank yesterday and a mountain hex. Very cool. For War at Sea they could give out a ship and a new map or island hex and the new scenarios they created all printed on nice card stock.

Your FLGS buys them at a very discount rate and gives them out to loyal players and during tourney's as prizes.

Hope that answers your ???? finally.

yes, thank you. unfortunately my FLGS can't run events, something about the mall not letting them or something. I guess I could look for a different place that sells them, but that takes effort and who wants to do that :)

Damn Malls... LOL

Hello gang
Slaynar here, I am the owner of Game Quest Inc. In SW Virginia. We have been open now for 13 years and are a Combat Zone Partisapating Retailer, Yeah the CZ packs are a monthly thing that we buy for $10 us dollars each, they come with enough items for 12 customers. It is only to WoTc approved Retailers and we do have a few "hoops" to jump through to keep the account. But MAN they do come with some cool stuff... If your retailer does not partisapate you should ask them about it.
