Alrighty then...here is my Fuso/Yamashiro conversion along with the Ise/Hyuga. Also pictured for reference are my four Kongo's. The Fuso conversion takes two Kongo's and is actually pretty simple...just changing the superstructure a bit and adding two turrets as well as hightening the bridge/main mast, the Ise was merely a means of using the second (left over) Kongo hull from the Fuso conversion. For the Ise I had to break out the Dremel and cut away much of the raised deck in addition to deleating the secondary armament. The flight deck is scratchbuilt using sheet styrene. The turrets of the Ise are actually from a Hood.

I think they represent the respective ships pretty well...not sure that I'm 100% pleased with them though.

You're an artist. I'm glad to see that jacked up Kongo was turned into something good.

There they are in all their glory...usually just get blasted out of the water by the Americans though:rolleyes: .

Technically, you should've removed the rest of the casement guns on the Ise BB/AV hybrid. Also, maybe add a catapult from a Jintsu to the Fuso?
Any chance of seeing a Mogami CA/AV hybrid any time soon?

Very nice job. I think I've asked you this before, but what color do you use on your decks? It is a very rich tone and contrasts with the gray so much better than the light yellow deck color of the originals.

Its Vallejo Sand Brown...
Yeah, the casemates on the Ise are just blunted off...except gun position 1 and 2, couldnt get those without hacking into the deck...also technically there should be a third-deck also with casemates on her but as long as I can get close to her overall look then Im ok with it...afterall they are tabletop conversions and not exact replica's of the ships in question. Interesting enough though, I thought about adding a catapult to the Fuso on turret number 4, (she had one there added later as the side horizontal ones flanking turret 4 early interferred with firing arcs), but decided against it...it might have concealed the whole turret making the figure look kinda weird.

seisen i was wondering if you could discuss the conversions you chose for the jintsu CL's i have a couple of extra of those and liked what you did but am unfamiler with what they are representing. i did an convesion from an Akagi to an Kaga and it turned out well. and converted on jintsu to an older class of CL (dont recall which right now) three stacker i remember that.
i am also looking for what i can do with an extra hood, tennesse, and 2 kolins,
i like the idea of converting for more variety, and tradeing for other stuff has mostly dryed up here (every one has what they wanted mostly)
any thoughts are appreciatted.

I just did a Hood to Renown conversion. pretty easy. pop off the rear most turret and I cut between a 1/4 and 1/2 inch out of the middle. glued it back together and viola! BC with out the crap SA!! need more details PM me.

Ive got a few Jintsu Conversions...some are not pictured here though...
The one with the aircraft on it is the Chiyoda...there were three Auxiliary carriers built on highly modified Jintsu/Naka/Tama class CL's. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/japan/chitose-cvl-schem.htm
There were three ships built, Chiyoda, Chitose, and Nisshin. They served as Seaplane tenders for most of the war in their early form which is how I modeled them. There is some confusion regarding these as just prior to the end of the war, both the Chiyoda and Chitose were re-built as full deck escourt carriers resembling the Zuiho. In the latter form they would have served as convoy escourts. I modeled the Chiyoda as she had an active carrer supporting landing operations, her scout/floatplanes providing valuable ground support and recon. To make her I used green stuff (modeling epoxy) to make a completely bare Jintsu hull "flush decked". The forward superstructue comes from a Yukikaze and the raised deck was scratchbuilt using sheet styrene. Afterward I just added aircraft and painted her.
The other "Jintsu Conversion" you see is actually an Atlanta Hull used to make the Agano Class CL. You could use a Jintsu for it though...I chose the Atlanta for the high freeboard. For this conversion you need to chop up a Sydney...use three turrets, a funnel, and the rest is sheet styrene.
Ive made an Oi/Kitakame using a Jintsu and three Le-Terrible's...your just taking the torpedo mounts off of them to mount on a re-worked Jintsu.
For the Hood you could make the Repulse very easily. You just remove the mid section of the ship...from the last funnel to the rear-mast, then re-glue the two halves. I deleted the rear turret and then shortened the barbette on the superimposed turret to about the level of the last turret's barbette. Then re-paint.
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee308/seisenphotos/Picture_006.jpg
For the Tennesse, Ive made a Nevada, Just pop off the two top turrets...then carefully cut off the gun barrels, then eliminate one of the guns from each. Re-glue them (centered) back onto the turret. That is it. If you did all four turrets you would have the Colorado/Maryland/West Virginia.
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee308/seisenphotos/100_0618.jpg
For the Koln's Ive converted two spares into the Leipzig and Nuremburg. Just cut off the funnels, and replace with an Ajax funnel. Also re-align the rear turrets so that they are superimposed in-line. You might want to make the rear superstructure (that the #2 turret sits on) symetrical. Thats it for that one.
What to do with the Ajax, Sydney, and Atlanta used in the above conversions? Put the Sydney funnels on the Ajax and replace the Ajax turrets with Atlanta turrets and you have the improved Dido/Bellona.
Hope this helps if not PM me and I'll send pics to your e-mail.

thanks to both of you this is very helpfull, and appreciated i have done plenty of conversion before and so am familer with greenstuff and styrene work. but an broad knowledge of japanese light units has eluded me
I was thinking renown, i will be doing just that, lovely "who needs an boat deck anyway?"
ill post pics as soon as i am able...
i also like the idea of more british crusiers...
i'd do your kongo conversions but i currently have only one of those and would like to kongo class before cutting up any others..

Another way to do that would be to just not play with the SA in affect.

did the renown conversion i plan on useing the hood stats - 25% main fire power(rounded down to 11 at 0-1 range) and about 6 points less than the hood with no SAs. hows that sound?
heres pics of my kaga conversion it required extensive rebuilding of the deck and funnel assy.
