Does anyone else think its a little silly that its actually easier to kill a god if there are no gods in the attacking army. instead of risking loosing your own gods you can simply kill off the armies in the territory and all the gods will be banished anyway. only the goddess helps you in defense so if you leave them on the front lines there just sitting ducks. in the games i play every body huddles there gods up in a corner some where cos the use of there cards is much more useful than the combat bonuses and nobody wants to risk losing one. Because of this we hardly ever have any gods wars :(

The solution I've come up with is this (this has not been tested)
If all armies die in a territory where a god resides it simply retreats to an adjacent territory. It does not get banished until it has no where left to go. This Would bring out the gods as it would then be more beneficial to try your luck in a godswar. this would stop the gods being such weaklings when it comes to defending themselves against mere mortals.

What everyone's thoughts?

Interesting Doug??
I have to admit I've never herded my gods. I like the combat bonuses you get particularly with the god of war. Many times I have seen a large army melt before a small force. But with the god's bonus a small army can hold their own attacking a large force.
Anyway, I guess I can't argue with you...those faith tokens don't come easy when you have sooo much to do on a turn with them. Not having to replace gods can be very useful in a game.
Oh well, would like to see what others think also.

Sounds like an interesting house rule that may find a home in future games of mine. As it stands now, the cutthroat guys that I play with specifically target gods that can be banished through defeat of the territory's armies in an effort to minimize the player's ability to play the devastating miracle cards. Couple that with the fact that everyone gangs up on anybody who gets hold of a continent, making extra faith hard to come by, means that you can end spending all your faith each epoch on god replacement.

...We do both! We have lots of godwars (and) we too "go after" small armies with gods to knock 'em off! I ,too, find it bit weird that gods would be bansihed in lue of having your armies before them wiped out! Why not banish them (retreat) them to an adjacent territory? That is a GREAT idea! Then, if there are no lands to retreat to then have them be banished! (Makes sense!)-

...Or: When they are "banished"-roll a 1d6 for EACH god..if you roll a '1' then that god banishes (goes back to your pool) if not: just have them "banish"/ retreat to one of your temple locations- I mean that's why the armies build temples right? To worship and raise thier gods at thier temples! That would be a neat idea- to banish them to one of your temples! It would make buying temples more enticing! (Show of hands....how many of us have bought temples?- I know I can't say none of our group members have- just wait to get a free one from a miracle card or just attack and take over one!- that's what we do! :D
