generally i know rules regarding alliances are best determined by individual players before each game starts, but i was curious as to what other people thought of trading/bartering with command cards as part of an alliance? is this an absolute no? or does it matter? thanks

I'm pretty sure that no trading of command cards is allowed during the game, but, like a lot of the game's rules, it can be bent or broken as you see fit.

The game doesn't have any bartering involved, and any "agreements" about "alliances" are on a turn-by-turn basis. If you decide to introduce a house-rule allowing trade, you have to be careful when you're deciding whether you'll violate the no-commander, no-command-card rule in the standard game.
