Just recently spoke to a friend who attended the gen com tournement, but he doesn't play A&A. While I work on converting him into a A&A opponent, can anyone tell me about it who was there first hand? I am planning to go next year and would like to know about it. Thanks - Jason

GenCon A&A was great with Greg doing his usual outstanding job of keeping the tournaments going. There's tourneys for all the A&A games, but I've mostly experienced A&A 2nd edition and Revised, so I'll discuss them.
Revised is new, lots of players trying many different strategies. FTF play with a time limit is a much different game. Plan a strategy based on 6 turns of play with victory going to the Allies if the Axis can't get to 8 v.c.'s in that time frame. Plan on the Axis receiving IPC's at the beginning of the game because the onus of victory is on them. Play style appears to be large buildups for the final battle.
2nd edition is established and strategies known. Plan on the bid providing the Axis with over 20 IPC's worth of units prior to game start. In the Masters, I won my first game after giving the Axis 26 points. I lost the championship giving them 23. Shame on me :-)
A&A Pacific sees the Allies receiving IPC's and trying to hold India against an all out Japanes push.
Europe sees the Allies getting IPC's, also.
The tournaments are all well run and the prizes are great. I was fortunate to only take second place this year, as the first place trophy was far too large to fit in the china cabinet. Last year there were T shirts and caps, this year there were sweatshirts and caps. It was a great time, a very social gathering between players who recognize each other from previous years and enjoying the opportunity to fellowship together. A true Band of Brothers.
