Ah, the fabled Russian tank drive to Tokyo. :D Besides the minor point that tanks don't swim, how do we make this happen? :p

Japan and Germany actually modified tanks to be amphibious. The Germans were going to drive them across the English channel for Operation Sealion to sneak attack the Brits.

Man, I would love to see that. A long time ago I actually used amphibious tanks that could enter the water, swim up to 2 sea zones, and attack. But they attacked at like 0 against ships.

Hey Dcotor
Were these tanks ever used?
On a similar note (sorry a tad off topic) I seem to recall reading about a German tank that was developped that was so big (3 tonnes I think) that the engine blew when it went up hills.
If you have a link for where you found these tanks I'd be interested in seeing a photo of them.

The tank is the Maus. It had 200mm of armor. Only 2 were made. The site is OnWar.com, and they have lots of cool stuff on there about tanks and weapons and prototypes and such. My guess would be Japan made the amphibious tanks in small numbers but maybe none survived the war.

Heres an interesting one for tank fanatics-
Some artillery and a handfull of KV-1 tanks under Rokossovsky's command at Iartsevo in August 41' during the Wehrmacht offensive in Smolensk, stopped the entire 7th, and 20th Panzer Divisions(Third Panzer Group), dead in their tracks for days.
