This is copied over from the "Ask the designer thread" as my query became lost in the banter of the thread.

Bruce,

Took the game out for a spin last night, and our curmudgeonly crew devoured the game with glee.

As much as we enjoyed it however, I think we may have hit a snag first time out!

In Haunt 28 “Ring of King Solomon”, the scenario directs the traitor to place the Demon Lord and his 5 minions on the board to begin assaulting the heroes. While there are stats included for Demons #1-5, nowhere was I able to find the stats for the Demon Lord himself!

It could be that I am just blind, and I was loathe to pass the Haunt book to a hero to double check —Or it could be an oversight.

(BTW, we thought it might be cute to give the Demon Lord stats of 666 but ultimately settled on a slighty more robust 6/8/6--This made little difference however as the Demon Lord was quickly dispatched by Madame Zostra with the help of the Madman and the spear...)

Anyhow thanks for any input you may add, I think it speaks volumes for the game that we all had such a good time in spite of this possible omission.

Thanks for the game, Aash

The demon lord's stats seem to have been devoured by the greater demon of editing. Before that they were Speed 1, Might 7, Sanity 7.

I haven't played this yet, but what do you think about this.

Treat the lake as having this text. "Place this tile on the basement adjacent to a tile there. You must put the lake as far of the basement landing as you can. Take 1 damage."

This may need some tweaking, since as I said before I haven't played there. The thing will be the lake is discovered by falling from the top floor. The requirement of placing it as far as possible is just for background logic, and can be dropped if it's thought as too clunky. The damage represents the fall. A different option would be making some might check to avoid damage by diving into it.

Some questions remain, though. How is it that the lake is only discoverable by falling into it? Why can't people find it by just wandering around the basement?

Maybe we could add this new rule: "If no basement tiles remain and the lake hasn't appeared yet, you may enter a new room and look at the remaining tiles for the lake. Don't activate the falling text. Shuffle the tiles afterwards"

What do you people think? (I know that just sticking the correct tile back would be simpler, but this has fluff added I think. You either fall into it or you'll have to make thorough exploration to find it)

I apologize if this wasn't the right thread for this suggestion

I hate to say it - but I think game editing has gotten a lot sloppier since the ability to correct things via Internet FAQs became available. In the 80's, I doubt a game-crushing error like this and others throughout BaHotH would have gone out the door! This game is great, and should be commended for offering such a wide array of scenarios, but man, if I ever turned in anything with this many errors at my job I'd be in a whole heap of trouble. This error of omitting absolutely crucial monster stats is among the worst. I know that you, Bruce, as designer must be disappointed. I just hope that AH is as equally concerned.

I agree. I'm reading a lot of posts with questions about things that seem either unclear or contradictory. This is a really cool game so I'm willing to give it a little more slack, but rushing anything out the door without proper proofing is just not a good idea. If we see more expansions for this game (and I'm keeping everything crossed!) I hope these kinds of things are scrutinized more before it goes to the printer.
