Monsters and critters....?

...As I HAVE NOT played this "awesome" game yet...I was wondering:

In each "haunt/scenario"....how many actual monsters are there when the haunting begins?

I assume it varies in quantity and "type" for each haunt but what about the minor critters (bats, rats, etc.)- Are there cards that tell you the amount? Do you roll dice to determine amount?

I am just curious...are there tons of monster/critters involvement coming after you or are they just "spread out"?

The number of monsters can depend on the scenario or the number of players. The type of monster or monsters that are after the good guys are also dependent on the scenario (Usually each Scenario only has one type of monster) Movement of the monsters is usually determined by the traitor. Sometimes there are special rules for the monster movement.

Example.

The blob like creature, during one of the scenarios, expands to every adjacent tile on it's turn, getting bigger and bigger until it envolps the players.
