Instead of "Where's Waldo?"...."Where's Grognads?" Forgive me for being 'ignorant' but what happened to him? I don't see posts from him lately and furthermore I don't even see him in the member's list anymore!
He didn't bail on us...did he? He is the president of the {M} CLub!- :p
Please...if anyone has any info- please let me know- THANKS!

Naah... 'ol no. 22 would never bail on us.
He's still here... forums show a member in good standing with last Groggy activity 10-02-2004 11:35 PM. Now whether or not he's all there... well that truly is a question best left to professionals. :D
But yes he has been quiet the past few... hmm, kinda makes you wonder what he's up to. I agree... there's nothing like coming in here and seeing a whole 'swath' of 'late nite' 'Grog' posts.
Ya know... these forums really are an excellent community. No wonder this site is always my first online stop. ~ZP

I'm guessing the parker brothers found him walking down the street and decided to end the discussion on LoTR risk.
We eagerly await his return.

yeah not a bad idea, probably a good time to bail to other axis and allies boards, as the developers here have seemed to vanish in support of their creation...similar to what happened with europe and pacific...i like all the feedback on house rules, but i also thought it would be in good taste for the developers to interact with us more on them...everything here is too official, like at larry harris site, no inspiration for fellow developers...
i will stop by now and again just to see, or to post my error complaint about the QA on betrayal on the hill game that i havent bought yet...
here is your birthday present, sorry, it has QA errors, but thats ok, its AVALON HILL!!
cheers to all, was fun...

Damn... this sux.
I gotta apoligize for jumping to conclusions that everything was peachy, particularly to Holywolfman. Obviously it isn't. I was just going by the fact that Grog had only been gone a couple days and the fact that his username still come up which made me think perhaps the members list thing was a fluke. But obviously something has happened... and Holywolfman was spot on in noticing. Some 600+ posts don't just dissapear overnight by themselves. ~ZP

i will end the rumor mill...
mr g has left this message board...i think, like myself, more out of frustration on the developers lack of interacting with us, its like the other axis and allies games, the big build up, the sales and the vanishing smoke and mirror show...ie, where did they go, why no more interaction...i believe many of his questions to QA and why things are how they are, ie lack of japanese tanks, unclear rules, never where answered by anyone officially from AH / wotc, and when someone would answer his PM's, it was more like, i will get back with you, which didnt happen in his case...
this is another, sale, and bail show...seems extream, but yet i totally agree with his (g's) point...im finding that its not about us (the consumer, the fans of axis and allies), its about money (axis and allies sells)...i understand that as well, but technology has now made it clear buy what we read, and how a company reacts, and in this case, AVALON WHO??? WIZARDS OF WHAT COAST?? HARRY LARRIS?? ...from the makers of magic, to the makers of cheap / error filled games...from NOVA GAMES to RTS???...how embarrassing...!!
personally, i will miss him...
i wish everyone here the best as well, as i too, look for something different...
cheers to all, and good gaming!! and in my tribute to a fellow gamer...

Wow! I am bit stumped on that one!- ELBOW...you too!?! As I, too, get fraustrated with some game issues (rules, piece content, erratas, etc) -as a "long-time" gamer myself...you have to expect some "imperfections" and roll with it. You may even have to smooth out some rule "issues" along the way....we all have done it! That is no biggie (to me anyways) On the other hand (to Grogs/Elbow's defense) I kind of see thier points to! There are little things that could've been done to assure"quality" control:
One example of this was when the "revised" edition came out and many (including me) griped about the poor quality of the cardboard stock....then they (AH) turned around knowing "our" complaints still released D-Day with the same thin card stock (granted there wasn't really any counters in that game but still they refused to listen)
Another aspect was the Font size....of course it was too small...yet they continued it onto D-Day...which was still too small! Things like that really doesn't make the game "unplayable" (IMHO) but the principle of listening to the "fans" was there! And....as I am not really sure what was the last "straw" for Grogs' camel...but it was probably had something to do with Risk:LotR edition!
Many of us (like me...no doubt) spend tons of money and even our time here because we LOVE to boardgame! I know I do!- :D I guess it would make our experiences more enjoyable if the design team/ developers would use this forum as a GREAT tool to share thier products, updates, or even answer our questions! (which I know some of the designer/developers ALREADY do...like Mike Selinker and Bruce Glassco for House on the Hill)
I don't know...I really like this company and I know they make money...maybe they have to "becareful" how "BIG" they get to remember who got them there in the first place!!!-
Other companys I know the developer/designers are in direct contact with the fans are:
1) Eagle Games
2) Days of Wonders
3) Fantasy Flight Games
...to name a few!
Yeah I don't blame them. Any idea how to get in contact with Grognads or where he is surfing these days?
I would add that GMT games is very responsive and will bend over backwards to take care of its customers.

It's posts on these forums that reinforce my concern that I would not be getting all the value I should for the money I would spend on recent AH releases. I have not yet purchased AAR or HOH for this very reason. I was generally pleased with AAE, AAP, and Diplomacy, but, as stated in other posts, I prefer the old AH games over the Milton Bradley Gamemaster Series-style releases.
It is extremely apparent that Hasbro is reaching out to a customer base that is different from the Avalon Hill gamers of yesteryear. This is a great disappointment, as it gives me the impression that AH is merely a sidenote in their HUGE conglomerate. With other companies picking up the banner, I am of the opinion my money is better spent elsewhere.

I am only on the boards infrequently, but I was in communication with him for a pending game sale. Bummer for me...
I'm in agreement with sking. As I posted in another thread, AH/Hasbro probably couldn't care less about wargamers. What I have read here supports that. I would also like to second what Lobo said, GMT is extremely good with customer service. I have contacted them many times and received personal attention each time. They are very responsive in sales, but even moreso in games deveopment. They really listen to the wargame community. I would urge you to go over to consimworld in the GMT forum and see for yourself if you haven't already.
Another sterling company for being responsive is Critical Hit. They no longer do ASL, but ATS (Adv. Tobruk System, a descendent of Hal Hock's AH release: Tobruk) is very active in development and the owner of the company regularly (daily) interacts with the community at the CH message boards. ATS is a great alternative to ASL, especially if you ever want to play a different game sometime in your life.
Actually, I would say all other existing wargame companies are more responsive than AH/Hasbro (from what I've seen)
I was in communication with him for a pending game sale. Bummer for me...
Ditto that. If anyone can provide an idea of how to get a hold of Grog, I (we) would appreciate it.

Hey, some good news.
A confirmed GROGnads sighting! Yep, over at Larry's site this morning (Pacific and other forums).
If you're a member over there at harrisgamedesign.com maybe send 'ol GROGnads a PM or somethin' to let him know he's been asked about/missed around these parts. ~ZP
