I'm going to celebrate my recent promotion to series' rank by whining about the ranking system some more. How about we:
a. Include most of the noncom ranks
b. Include officer ranks
c. Make the upper limit higher than 50 posts
But anyways, I have a system:
0-19 posts Private
20-29 PFC
30-39 Corporal
40-49 Sergeant
50-59 Staff Sergeant
60-69 SFC
70-79 Master Sergeant
80-89 First Sergeant
90-99 Sergeant Major
100-199 Lieutenant
200-299 Captain
300-399 Major
400-499 Colonel
500-999 Brigadier
1000-1499 Major General
1500-1999 LT General
2000+ General
Just a thought, but it makes more sense to me this way. And maybe the top poster is Marshal or some such designation.

Marshall Series... I like the sound of that :D
I did never realize I was considered by AH the same type of poster as someone who posted only 50 times... however, it never bothered me and doesn't now either. I think every post is an important piece of a person's knowledge and time, and a person who posts once and a person who posts 1,500 times both have equally valuable opinions.
Your leader has spoken!
PS:
I do agree however, that Master Sergeant is a bad way to end the ranks. However, I also agree that I wont stop visiting the boards because they refuse to give me a promotion I deserve :D Well, I did read once that new ranks were in the works. Let me guess... this project was never picked up?
I think that my 1,000 something posts should come with MODERATION POWERS, so that I could personally design ranks (and make cousin joe talk like a monkey  )

LOL that funny series!!
I really like boylers rank system...and what would make this really good is to get rid of the actual # of post....put it some where private on your profile. That way everybody can see what rank you are and know your STATUS!!
And even if I don't get MODERATION Power!! I deserve Brigader GENERAL STATUS!

Way back when the "Mod Squad" did say they would look into changing or modifying the ranking system if anyone had ideas. Well here ya go...
I gotta say I really like that ranking system.
Maybe the General could become Two Star General at 2k posts (up to 5 star/5k), and the top poster could simpy be "Commander in Cheif". ~Lt. ZP

5K is ridiculous. Most of us probably wont live long enough to reach that number. It's fine how boylermaker said it.
I like this system.
I'd like it more if Joe was a monkey. But that's ok.

So..does that mean if you have a "higher" ranking officer present...do you have to salute him/her? (lol)- :D

I've been on message boards before where the ranks topped out at 7k... and when someone broke the 10k mark, they gave him a special designation.
I'd like to say "wow, those people have no life" but here we are, posting on a message board about message board ranking system.

I agree that the persons post count should not determine whether or not what they say is valuable. Some people just have more to comment on than others. I just agreed with series ... my head hurst and I have to go lie down now.
Before I do that though I offer this advice to you Marshall series. Look out for number two. Keep your friends close and your enemies even closer.
On another note I was watching a film last night called U-Boats in the St. Lawrence. One of the first few decent films I've seen from the National Film board of Canada. Very good documentary that explains Canada's role in WW2. More specifiacly the "Corvettes". Anyway i looked at the back of the box and there is another set of documentaries called "Canada remembers series." I just laughed and thought "gee series your an icon to Canadians too." (lol)
I personnally don't care what my rank is as long as its isn't potatoe peeler.

Joe must have told the canadians about our enhanced game... that crazy guy.
LOL though... canada remembers Series...
So it's a documentary about canda's role in WWII? What's it called- I could use 5 minutes of education. :D

Ouch series! Good one though. Altough I know you are just ribbing ... FYI Canada did most of the escorts for merchant ships from North America to Britain before 1942 when the yanks finally woke up and got their act together. War what war?:D

I wonder if current members or former members of the military/paramailitary forces, would even want, to be given/tacked on ranks (especially when it fails to match the armed service they served).
Also I wonder if Military wannabees, really want a given candy AXX rank of Field Marshal or 5 star general, ect., thanks, Pellulo

I skipped 2LT and LC so that there would be five officer ranks, giving me nice numbers. Same reason I skipped whatever the Two-Star Sergeant Major is, and warrant officers, and all the other ranks I could have included.

I wonder if current members or former members of the military/paramailitary forces, would even want, to be given/tacked on ranks(especially when it fails to match the armed service they served).
And I wonder if we care... the point is, many message boards have a ranking system. For example, the Stephen Hawkings message board ranks you on your grade level-
1-10=Preschooler
11-50=Kindergartener
etc.
As a high schooler, I wouldn't be offended if I ended up a 4th grader or college graduate- it's just a rank.
But also, how many people here are/were in the military, and if they were, how many of them seem offended so far?
I actually think the ranks might be more fun, however, if they reflected AH games. For example:
1-10=Russian Battleship
11-50=Gray Chip
51-100=Confederate Soldier
etc.
However, if you did use this system, the single highest poster would HAVE to be "Japanese Armor", seeing how rare they are in real life :D

In an attempt to match the ranking system with the themes of AH games, we decided to try this. It's still in a trial phase. At present we have not recieved any official complaints on the scale that I am aware of. In any online community it is impossible to please every single member. In this case we're looking for something the majority would like to see.
If you have alternative suggestions, we are certaintly open to hearing them =)

So when do OUR ranks change?
Make sure I get to be "Marshal", AKA largest poster!

You're the last person I thought would say that.
True, for most most of us 5k posts is ridiculous. Most of us. The 5 Star General rank maybe takes into consideration those who racked up 1.5k posts in 6 months. Know anyone like that?
At this rate you'll be bucking for your 5th star this time next year dude.

I rather have no ranking, perhaps tying it into AH games, might make a good option! Being a former USN member, being given make believe ranks, is not an amusing/CUTE thing, just ask any former service member, you might know, thanks, Pellulo( former HM2-----> yes space cadets that is a REAL RANK).

Ok, here's the system I made... this may make the military men happier... Actually, I am beginning to think that what with Iraq and all, a military rank isn't a good idea.
Note: Risk, Axis and Allies units are only given to people of over 200 posts, as a sign of honor for the most successful games. However, this list isn't finished, because I may have forgot some pieces.
0-19=New Guy

I like the idea of shuffling around terms from all games. I think though we have to be realistic, I just know the list has to be shorter to be accepted by the tech people.

Actually, it's only 2 more than the first post suggests!
How about when we have a few more entry's, a 24 hour poll is posted to decide which is most favored.

The concept of pieces-as-rankings is neat, but I think the order of the ranks should be more obvious. How should I know, just from looking at the pieces, that a US Destroyer is higher than a Greek Elephant?
