Friday it snowed. The crystaline flakes managed to defy eveyones plans save a group of gamers on a friday night.
We had played every good game, among our favorites were Twilight Imperium, Risk(all sorts), Napoleon in Europe, and others of that make. The kind of game that destroys trust, but then forces enemys to band together against a common foe.
Risk has always been a particlar favorite while we have played 2210 many times classic was still the best, only we had mangled the rules of classic to fit our diplomatic suits. Anyway back to the gaming group...
One of us produced Risk 2210 and we decided to engauge in a game. The deployment went beautiful for all sides, everyone was given a well formed empire, and the more sceptical among us questioned the vaility of the dealer.
Our group has made 2 minor changes as to the rules, if the game decides unammously to have no turn limit it is so, otherwise it is just 5 turns, the other rule is that at the beging of every round a diplomactic summit of some sort is held and people may whisper and get up for a "Drink" with a friend.
Returning to the game everyone quickly begain their weaving of political intrique, I, taking the full diplomactic route to victory quickly assed the situation and tied my puppets strings to the other players. The first 2 turns went silightly a peaceful build up, none yet forcing a cold war on anyone. Then it began in the most meger way, insted of a cannon firing from a sea battery at Fort Sumter, nore a blitzkrieg thru poland, it was discovered among the players that the the austrialian was funding a soon to be war. The first battles dotted the asian landscape, as no one dared attack anothers homeland. Seeing this war, i quicklyed built my puppets into teams, trying my best to stay on both sides.
Its turn 5 now, the war ended and the odds stacked against me, i peacefully funding both sides with cards and energy had not covered my tracks as well as i would have wanted. Sitting in my south american stronghold i felt like quait against iraq aka my good friend Kyles empire.
With my end on all to near horizons i bought nuclar cards hoping for some redemtion. Meanwhile the central american border with the North American Empire began to become unsettled as the truce from turn 2 ended. The Austrians now owned half of asia and were pressing against the europeans whom had the power to match it. Europe had been prodected by treaties in the earlyer parts of the game and was now ready to defend itself.
Kyle was slow to make his move, no treatys protected each other save only our respect for our skill as gamers. After a heavy bribe by the europeans and austrians, Kyle ordered his troops across the straight and into my homeland, the battle was horrendous while he did succed in taking it he only had 2 armies left, a deafing blow.
Charlie(The Austrian) now decended from the west in an effort to attack Kyle. His forces meet a quagmire of troubles as they were brutally defeted in a series of battles above and under water, which was to scare his chances for victory for the rest of the game. It was my turn, and no one expected what i was going to do...
I evacuated, in argintina my troops loaded into their transports and blasted off for the moon, which was occupyed in a 2 way spilt that always keep peace, i easly took it over save 2 small provinces. Then the real hurt began, i played armmagadon and all 3 nukes followed by a barrage of smaller missles, near completly destroying the outskirts of charlie's austraila and most of America, these also helped in the conquest of the moon. It was here we took an intermission we were in our 5 or 6th hour of gaming.
2 pizzas later...
Everyone resumed their command chairs as the last half was near all combat, the wheels which i had started during the first part spun uncontrolablly. Kyle's Empire was defeated when Matt our european dodged a cease fire agreement and attacked him. Charlie took the jump as well but it left him defensless, thus the Americans went on a conquest through all of asia. Charlie realized his end was near and joined me on the moon(i gave him the 2 provinces). All that was left in the arena were Kyle, Matt, and Corey. Matt quickly threated Corey and where as matt was my puppet corey was his. Matt preformed a second nuclaur holocaust, disabling all players including him. Corey then being commanded by matt overwhilmed kyle in a series of amazing battles. Matt was declared the winner at 4 in the morning. The risk game had lasted 10 hours...
We played risk today, and while it did not reach the sheer entertainment of the prior game, it was still fun and entertaining. That is the sign of a great game, that even, EVEN after 10 hours of near continus play that a game can be played again, and more importantly, enjoyed.
But so, if u have a good risk game, post their events, i would be eager to see them.
In Thanks,
Cole Wehrle
