View Full Version : How do you balance?
I have read many ways people change/balance the game during play. I wondered what the most common was.

I make it so that no nation can win a capital victory. Real fun :D

Sinister,
Shouldn't it be SARS. I guess you didn't want it related to anything deadly.

Seems fairly even to me, I don't do anything.... :D
Seems Fairly even???? Everyone I've played, and AH say it's a Japanese advantage.
Maybe I haven't played enough good Allied players though???

Probably not... I always win as the Allies.... :D

I lower USA's economy and increase Japan's.
I also dont like the victory conditions, since it is just a race for Japan to grab india before the USA gets involved - too quick.

Welcome to the boards 82nd. Please check out my alternative rules to pacific. It's exactly what you are talking about!

Balancing rules for AAP:
Count the Japanese victory points at the end of the US' turn (that way Japan has to take and hold a territory to get credit).
Japan can win only on victory points - not on capital capture.
No substalling allowed (attacking subs must fight one round before submerging).
Kamikaze may not be used until "activated" - they are activated on the first turn Japan collects less than 30 IPCs of income (this makes them more of a game-saving "desperation weapon" than an advantage for Japan).
Optional - Repair damaged battleships at the beginning and end of Japan's turn only, not the end of each turn (gives the Royal Navy a little more punch).
These rules make for a balanced as well as more active game - more small battles.

What about increasing Japan's income?
We actually did away with any victory system.. since we never end games anyway. I guess total domination is how you win our game.

Nope, the Kamikaze attacks don't take anything more than the loss of one or more Kamikaze attacks in the future.

I say do nothing. The game is fine the way it is.
Do the kamakazies require a fighter, or are they just free attacks? Because the book doesn't specify.
Oh, and you suck Doctor Strategy.
Actually, it says it quite clearly, genius.

Well that was rude. I was ranking on Doctor Strategy because he's smug. Mine was an honest question. So next time think about why you're being offhand kid.
Welcome to the forum, Empire1945.
Actually, your comment was no more or less out of line than Series'. If you think Doc S is smug, just say so. Saying he "sucks" hardly makes your point. The former is an opinion, while the latter is an insult.
Speaking of opinions, I find it interesting that you feel qualified to offer one on whether or not the game is balanced when you freely admit that you don't fully understand the rules yet. You may want to wait until you have enough experience with the game to have an informed opinion before voicing it.
Just some friendly advice.

Going to respond anyway, only I'll direct this towards the group; what they *expletive* is wrong with him? He posted here asking a question, got an answer, and suddenly he's a righteous pain-in-the-neck. Don't we have some sort of screening measures before we let people join? ;) :D

Wow. Look I was under the impression this was a place to post questions, I didn't know you all took at so seriosly. I ranked on DOCS because he seems to think having a knowledge of a board game makes him a jenius. I actually haven't been able to find my instruction book for Pacific, but that's not the point.
Knowing everything about a board game doesn't make you jenius, and not knowing the in and outs of it doesn't make you a dumbass. You need to remember that it's a board game, key word here- game.
Had I known I was going to shake a beehive of uber dorks I would have kept my "uninformed" opinion and question to myself.
Let's see DOCS has posted 431, Krieghund has 564, and Series has 1,829...:) I apologise for crapping in your collective yard, you won't hear from me anymore on this subject. And please don't respont to this, while it has been temporarly amusing, I'm done.Empire1945,
My signiture is a quote from the movie Mystery Men. I think that movie is funny. I think you may possibly have me confused with another Doctor in the house, DocD. I cannot recall ever replying to even one of your 13 posts. I don't know what I could have done to pee on your proverbial cornflakes to upset you so. I'm a pretty laid back guy for the most part. Please feel free to post your opinions and questions and don't let people intimidate you from doing so. A teacher of mine used to say that there is no such thing as a stupid question. Then you would be the stupid one for not asking because you wouldn't know the answer. Teachers probably wouldn't get away with saying things like this today in our Politically Correct world.

Yeah, sorry DocS, I guess I woke up on the wrong side of the proverial bed. Didn't mean to be so rude.

Empire1945 - It was not your question I took exception to, it was your attack on Doc S and your hypocrisy in berating Series for doing something you had just done yourself. Questions are welcome, but rude behavior is not. I am appreciative of your apology to Doc S. You can get a copy of the Pacific rulebook here:

Please feel free to ask further questions.
Moderator Kayn - what is "masking"? (Forgive my ignorance.)
Doctor Strategy - Mystery Men is indeed very funny. It is one of my favorite movies.

Your appreciation is not required, and it is not my concern what you do or do not take exception to. I was rude and I apologised. I had thought this conversation was over, so let's drop it.
Thanks for the link to the site.
