On a different message board, I am arguing with this hothead who is saying that Killzone, a PS2 FPS, is horrible, and Halo is the God of games. If anyone is able to help me support killzone, please let me know. These stupid Xboys are ******* me off.

Sorry Dude. I own an X-box which is the best console in my opinion. PS2 has a lot more games to choose from though.

Don't own either of those, and never heard of Killzone. But I know Halo is an awesome game :D.

I dunno. I was a beta tester for Killzone, and right up to a week before release they still had MAJOR server issues. Haven't tried the final version yet, but was less than impressed.

There is only one server issue that I found after playing for maybe 3 hours in total- sometimes the microphones freeze. Hopefully that will be patched up.

Since I'm a tech weenie, I only see it one way...

XBox = Game Console, Media Center (with mod), or cheap Linux server (PIII 733, 128 Mb RAM, 8Gb HDD) at $149.
PS2 = Game Console

XBox wins.

Oh yeah, and Halo 2 rocks.

The way I see it...

Xbox=Halo 2
PS2=Ratchet and Clank, GTA, Grand Turismo, Socom 2, Snake Eater, Killzone, Final Fantasy- all recent releases.

Hmmmm...

Ahh, don't forget (with mod, or replacement OS run from CD) the Web Server, FTP server, DivX playback, replacable/upgradable hard drive, Proxy server, game server, ripping games from disk to hard drive and playing them without CD (with mod), built-in MP3 ripping, etc., etc.

I'd agree the PS2 is better for games, but that's about it.

Well, i dont have thousands of dollars to shell out for mods.

Actually the PS2 makes a decent (not perfect, but decent) Linux box too...

didn't halo 2 sell 100 million copies in 2 days?

didn't halo 2 sell 100 million copies in 2 days? I think it was 10 million, and earned them 100 million dollars.

Fortunately, the mods don't cost thousands. The Linux distro is free, and the mod chip that provides the Web Server, FTP Server, DivX, and local drive play only costs about a hundred to get installed. Some mode chips actually have a switch to bypass them for games that will disable themselves if one is detected. The Linux distro actually runs from CD, so if you have a burner, you're set - no extra cost. Otherwise, it'll install to the hard drive. A 120GB drive is only going for about $90 nowadays, but the 8GB drive is OK for the basics.

There's a $20 book that can be purchased that describes, in great detail, the usefulness of hacking an XBox for purposes other than game play. In a nutshell, Microsoft has provided the public a decent PC for the bargain price of $150 (networking, video, and everything). Even though, by today's standards, it's a slow machine, it's still useful, and I've never seen even a low-end PC for less than $200 even after rebates.
