Since the topic of best war movies came up, figured I'd ask what people think the worst war movies of all time were.
My nominations would be
1) Battlefield Earth
2) Windtalkers
3) Star Wars (Episodes 1 and 2) (I hope Episode 3 gets better)
I can't think of any other ones of the top of my head but maybe that will get the ball rolling.

I hated the thin red line
Oh but what about that cinematography??
Yeah it was a battle just to sit through the whole movie.

Pearl Harbor
The Viking Queen (Vikings fighting Romans in the 1st century, and one of the Roman soldiers is clearly wearing a digital watch.)

I forgot about braveheart, this movie had some nifty battle scenes, too bad it was so historically inaccurate.
BTW, Robert the Bruce was probably one of the best knights in history, funny how a movie written by a wallace (decendant of william wallace? ) was so one sided.

Yeah, even Alec Guiness thought it was a disaster. :o

Battle of the Bulge (which some people put in their "best" list) -- I nearly choked when that film asked me to swallow tanks churning over sand dunes as being in the Ardennes. I don't expect much historical accuracy in movies, but sand dunes?
Beach Red -- the Pacific War seen through a psychedelic haze.
The Conquerors -- more historical epic than war movie. Terrible, but worth watching to see John Wayne as Genghis Khan.

AVP!!!!!!!!!!!!
I forgot about that one. Biggest dissapointment for me since Alien3.
Maybe Doc Z and I were the only monkeys stupid enough to see this one....and I know it is the worst war picture ever...no make that plain movie ever!!!!....
......Gods and Generals!!!!!
And if you don't believe me, rent it!!! I dare YOU!!!!
Also stinking up the list....Thin Red line....there may have been some good scenes in it...but my mind was unable to grasp any due to the sheer BOREDOM the movie inflicted upon it.

I concur with Thin Red Line: whiney, unprofessional, unmotivated soldiers slowly battle unprofessional, unmotivated enemy soldiers through what seems like 12-13 hours of pleasant cinematography.
Here's some more:
• The Iron Triangle (starring Jeff Bridges), a movie so technically inaccurate I couldn't tolerate the first 8 minutes without turning it off never to view it again.
• Courage Under Fire (starring Meg Ryan), following in the footsteps of the Vietnam era war movies, it makes the soldiers who served in the Gulf look like drug addicts, psychotics, idiotic members of a grand conspiracy, incompetent, or heroic (if they're female).
• I concur also with Gods and Generals, too rambling, too sprawling, too boring. I've seen more action in commercials for suppositories.
• Any 'made for TV' war movie
And as a preemptive strike, any war movie starring the following:
Susan Sarandon
Jennifer Lopez
Al Franken
the guy from the Verizon advertisements
Carrot Top

But there are a lot of sand dunes in the Ardennes :)
I didn't include it in this list because I liked it as a kid, watching Saturday afternoon TV. Although I couldn't stand to watch it today.
I would add Patton to this list, as it makes me physically sick when Omar Bradley states that the 'German tanks are diesels'.
'Gods and Generals' -- I still bear the emotional scars from that one. Renting on DVD is too easy. Must see in theatre to experience the full boredom.
At least they warn you at the end that there will be 2 more movies to come.
I can hardly wait. I haven't been sleeping well lately!

Sahara ( J.Belushi.) yaawnnnnnnnnnnnnn
'Gods and Generals' -- I still bear the emotional scars from that one. Renting on DVD is too easy. Must see in theatre to experience the full boredom.LOL....true, very true!!
Plunk down your 9 bucks and begin the death march!!
Out of the 10 people in the theater, 5 walked out never to return at intermission!! I left soon there after (hey I was trying to get my money's worth)!

Whoa, see I missed that part since I didn't stick around to the end.
I believe there is only one more movie in the series left. Gods and Generals was part one of the trilogy, however, they released the second one, Gettysburg, years ago. Gettysburg was actually quite good. Highly recommend that one.
I stuck around because I wanted my $$$ worth and knew it had to get better. I was wrong.

The third part is called "Last Full Measure". There was also a book set before Gods & Generals set in the Mexican war called "Gone for Soldiers" it was good too. Not great, but good. :)

Uh-oh, nurse he's hallucinating again. He's seen Gigli four times already and swears he hasn't. This is getting worst by the day.
Have the attendants put him in a strait jacket before he hurts himself."

I forgot to mention War of the Worlds. The 50's version is a complete travesty of the book, and there's far too much pseudo-religious clap-trap - something which would have horrified atheist Wells.
I'm dreading the upcoming Tom Cruise version, but happily there's another UK based movie in the works which aims to be more faithful to the novel.
