1. Warhammer Quest by Games Workshop. It is a dungeon crawl, treasure gathering and monster slaying RPG boardgame hybrid.
2. Sanctuary by Mayfair Games. This is a boardgame based on the Robert Asprin Thieves' World series of books. You go around looting areas and taking money from your opponents while avoiding city guards.
3. Axis and Allies by Milton Bradley. Everyone knows about this one.
4. Hero Quest by Milton Bradley. Dungeon exploration and monster slaying RPG like game.
5. Risk and variants such as Castle Risk by Parker Brothers. Light strategy game of domination of the world.
These are my old favorites. What are your's.

Warhammer Quest was an allright game, it's kinda like a dumb-downed Dungeons & Dragons but it's ok for kids. ;) What would you say is the most powerful character DocS?
Anyways top 5 board games
1) Settlers of Cataan, this game is great for everyone.
2) Puerto Rico, it's hard to find people to play it with
3) Axis & Allies, (MB or AH)
4) El Grande, simple but complex ;)
5) Monopoly, why not? It was fun to try and get the RR's ;)

I played AD&D and a whole bunch of other RPGs. I would have probably included the Warhammer Fantasy Battle as well but unfortunately it was a tabletop game. But all these don't qualify as boardgames as Quest does.
My favorite character in Quest is the barbarian. The most powerful though depends on the way you like to play. In a basic game I would probably say the Barbarian is but not overmuch. If playing by advanced rules they are fairly even and all have their advantages and disadvantages.

...yeah "Hotels" is a Cool game (I wouldn't call it my fave though)-I actually "enhanced" the game a bit by making cool "Event Cards" for it...every time you roll a 6, draw a card (don't move!)
Some cards include:
1) Car Repairs- pay "x" Dollars
2) Hurricane hits....lose a hotel "section"
3) Fire in the grand entranceway...lose an entrance!
4) Inheritance...gain a FREE Deed (if available)
....to name a few~!!! It makes for a more exciting game!- :D

i agree with you for the cards ) its render it a bit more random :P my and my friend use the version on with you have to build your entrance(exept the free one) everyturn, make the game more random too, and remove some of the frustration of having players rushing to put entrance over you and winning the game in 20 minute

I've Barely have 5 influential games period  .
1. Battleship (later a talking clone and star wars battleship) First war theme game for me.
2. Then came risk(and later risk 2210), first "war/strategy" game.
3. Monopoly - Yes i know its luck and common sense, but I've had fun with it.
4. Also play a fair bit of chess.
5. Axis and Allies - Wouldn't be on this board if not for it... My peak of "strategic" (I know some say it isn't, boo hoo) boardgaming right now, I could go more realistic but since im in highschool it would be hard to find other players.
