It's official folks Sami Rami has announced plans to remake evil dead. While this sounds goods there are some problems.

1. This is a remake not a sequel
2. Rami isn't going to direct since he's doing spiderman 3: (the goblin returns)
3. Bruce has not signed on to play ash

Why remake something that is perfect as it is?

I read today that:"According to Variety, Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Bruce Campbell are teaming up to produce a remake of Evil Dead through Ghost House Pictures and Senator International. Oddly Sam will not be directing. No word yet of Bruce reprising the role of Ash. Neither Sam or Bruce has confirmed this news. So take it with a grain of salt. We'll keep you updated."

Hopefully this pile will get flushed like several other BAD ideas!

Series,

For God sake! You must go out and rent Evil Dead I, Evil Dead 2:dead by dawn, and Army of Darkness!!!

Do it Now!!!

I was hoping for:

1. A sequel made as poorly as the first film
2. Bruce Campbell
3. Sam directing

I got to talk to bruce's brother for about an hour about the production on evil dead and how awful the conditions were. I think the whole "low budget" aspect made this film great. To revamp it is just silly.

Have there been any more rumblings about the possibility of a Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash in the works?

Rami was approached to do this film but he declined. He didn't feel it was right for the evil dead or ash.

Series,

The evil dead was a movie made by the spiderman director sami rami while he was in college with his buddy bruce campbell. You'll recongize bruce as the wrestling announcer from spiderman 1 and the theater usher from spiderman 2. Uncle Ben's car, called the classic by Rami, is also in all 3 evil dead movies.(its Rami's car) That car has more movie credits than most actors and bruce has tried very hard to destroy it. Sam keeps it in a undisclosed garage now, away from Bruce.

Anyhoo, sami and his buddies used to shoot super 8 films for fun and college projects. They did a movie called "into the woods", which was about 4 people at a cabin in remote woods trying to survive against a supernatural force they unwittingly released. They used this film to convince investors to invest in THE EVIL DEAD a film that become a cult horror classic, with the same premise as into the woods.

Evil Dead was a great movie because it was incredibly low budget but incredibly good. They were forced to create their own special effects and, frankly, its amazing to watch how well the special effects were done. For what they had to work with its very cool filmwork.

The movie was good enough to warrent Evil Dead 2: dead by dawn, a movie that is a sequel to the first film although many people think its a remake. It was about the next night that the main character ash had to spend in the cabin where he's visted by demons and other people that get unwittngly wrapped up in all the evil. Evil Dead 2 varied however in tone as it became very comical in places and we see the transformation of Ash, from a frightend scardey cat into a deamon hunting bad ass. There's a great scene where the "Evil Force" around the cabin(and all it's 300 rooms) goes looking for ash, it can't find him, so it gives up, at least momentarily.

At the end of 2 something happens to ash which is the story for Army of Darkness, which is almost all adventure comedy.

I don't do it justice talking about it! Go rent the movies and watch them all. THEY ARE GREAT!!!

Its very hard to pick my favorite because one is horror, two is horror comedy, and army of darkness just is full of great one liners. There are two different endings out there to army of darkness btw, I go against bruce and sami and vote for the ending in the S-mart which they were forced to make when the studio said the film had too much of a tragic ending. I think I'm one of the few that prefer the studio forced ending.

These movies also spawned at least 2 video games. Fist full of boomstick and Hail to the King.

..Yeah and don't forget about these lines from Army of Darkness:

1) Ash to the witch: "Yo She-b$#ch... come get some!"

2) Ash to "bad ash": "The Good..the Bad...I'm the guy with the gun."

3) Ash to the "primates": "...This is my BOOMSTICK!"

4) The witch to Ash: "Who the hell are you...?"
Ash: "Ash....housewares"
witch: "I'll swallow your soul!"
Ash: "Come get some!"

5) The "peasent woman": "...I made this (blanket) for thee..."
Ash: "...Good, I could use a good horse blanket!"

6) Ash to the witch "laying" on the ground:
"...Wait! It's a trick.....get an axe!"

7) And can't forget the "words" to release the spell from the book:
"Clato....Verocta.....Nickel.....Necktie...I know it's an "N"- word!" (it was Nicto...but he couldn't remember!)- :D

8) Can't foget: "....G R O O V Y!"

...just some lines...but definately worth seeing for a laugh or two!

I agree that the Evil Dead movies were great. I liked Army of Darkness the best. Groovy! My favorite line is "Gimme some sugar baby!" All three were awesome.

I personnally think that some things are better left alone. I'd give a remake its day in court but part of the appeal of the first movie was the fact that it was so low budget and so well done for what they had to work with. I don't see how a remake could capture the ambiance of the first film.
