This is one of my favorite games. I almost forgot I had it and after knocking the dust off and rereading the rules I can't seem to find any use for the leader counters.Maybe its the set of rules i have but it makes no referance to what the leaders do.
Can some help here ,I know its an old game and dont know if anyone still plays this baby.
Also looking for opponents playing this game through Vassal(has a mod )

I'd have to dig this one out to be positive, but don't the commanders give you rerolls for combat? I'm pretty sure that was their function.

Yep, checked it out on lunch. The Army commander gives you two extra die rolls in a battle - you choose the best of the three. Your units stacked with him also use Morale Table 1, regardless of their true current level. The other commanders add 5 to the morale of the units they're with, and allow you one extra die roll. See "Special Units" on page 7 of the rules. Note that there's also some nasty penalties for losing your leaders in terms of victory and morale.
