I will never buy copy of this game, due to the fact that Hasbro has destoryed the game, by making the higher number win instead of the lower number. I always have played that the lower number wins, that is even how the orginal game was played. Now why did the number system change? I from reading other people's posts, I seem to like the idea of terrian, and the ability to custmize your army. I will never buy a game of stratego when the higher numbers wins, and neither will my friends.

I thought that in European versions the higher number always won.

All Stratego games produced by Hasbro currently use the higher number wins system. It takes some getting used to, but it's worth it for a game like Legends, IMHO

I know people in Europe who even state that the lower number wins. Come on the number one guy is the most important guy.

Yup, take the number one (the Fieldmarshal) and you win. He is #1 in Europe.

That's a stupid reason not to buy a game...I didn't buy it originally because I thought it was a cheap repackaging of original game (much like the 6 billion risk variants) but after reading up on it, the introduction of building armies and special powers is kinda neat. I will admit that its is very odd to have the higher number win...(throws me off!) but I can adapt...if I have to.

I agree. Why completely avoid a game because of a change in number rank. The game isn't old Stratego it is Legends. The game is customizable and the pieces have abilities over and beyond the basic game. Seems like a petty reason to avoid a great game.

You play A&A and are always looking at different ways of changing it. Give Legends a chance and you will probably find you enjoy the changes in it as well.

Well at least that's a valid reason for not buying it...

If the game functions the same, who cares if it's a high number, a low number, a series of colored dots, or a line of ice cream scoops along the side of the piece?

I feel the reason for the “higher number wins” is because of the special powers in the game. There are many pieces that gain bonuses (+ to their strength) from other pieces and terrain. If AH used the “lower strength wins” approach with the variable strengths then you would have pieces winning with negative strengths. Having the “lower number wins” works great when the strength of the pieces do not change, but with variable strengths its cleaner to have the higher strength win. My two cents. :)

I found this game on top of my garbage bin last week - from the neighbors. Played it today for the first time. Not bad. The number ranking doesn't matter too much to me. The random setup is worse because it seems to remove a lot of the strategy from stratego.

No one seems to be playing this game at all. Oh well, back to the A&AM boards.

they play regular stratego. I wish they did a WW1 stratego. I think it could be fun. When they add fantasy to anything thats originally based on something historical it allways fails.

I imagine that the Star Wars, LotR, and Godstorm versions outsell classic Risk, but I'm not sure. What other Historic games have you known to go fantasy?

I always though Stratego Legends failed because it's a collectable game with little or no appeal collectors. I think poeple would rather collect cards or minatures than shinny sheets of tiny stickers. You can't even play without peeling the stickers, which means you can't really keep your pieces in near mint condition - unless you just collect the sticker sheets.

Legends is a cool game. I've got a full set, if anyone is in Halifax and wants to try it.

I really enjoyed this game. Tried to collect a full "playset" of pieces, but that got to be extremely difficult, especially when the expansion army gave the light side the choice to build with 5 copies of a couple strengths.

That and the short-printing of the Skull, the Wascyo Fiasco...

LOTR risk is an exception to the rule . that game is good.

The original Panzer General computer game was re-tooled as Fantasy General. Both very fun games.
