I wonder what music you all like to listen to when playing Axis and Allies?

The soundtrack from Triumph of the Will is quite effective if you're playing Germany, the Andrews Sisters are evocative of the period for the American player, and you could find some concertina albums if you're playing the Russians.
You probably think I'm a grumpy old fuddy-duddy of an ape, however my personally favourite to listen to is the Greatest Hits of Elvis Presley, which always gets me up and a-jiggin'.

One of our gamers bring all kinds of "metal" with him every time. Got to have it heavy when the carnage begins.

for the real carnage, I think metal is good, but Wagner it's the best!!
remember the village-helicopter-attack in Apocalypse Now?
:)

for my part, I usually pick up the first CD I like and hear it till its end, then the next and so on, without paying much attention on the music, I must admit that I don't quite hear the music when I concentrate on the next move...

I run a mix of classical marches from Wagner, Holst, Mozart, and of course Tchaikovsky.

Music is almost always present during my A&A games. We probably go through eight or nine CDs worth of music per game. People in my play group always bring selections to share with everyone. So we're always listening to new music and are exposed to genres that are new to some of us.

Of all the CDs we've listened to during games, my favorite has been a performance of Gustav Holst's "The Planets." The selections for Mars and Jupiter are great for the battle phase, while Mercury is great for getting a slow player to think more quickly!

Also, I find having a football game on the radio to be good for background noise. It gives the players something else to focus on if one or more of their opponents are taking a long time talking, thinking, etc. Plus football broadcasts provide excitement and energy.

I agree with lnetz
We played a few selections from "The Planets" back when I was in band at school. Mars and, I think, Jupiter. Mars was awesome.

Slightly O/T, but when me and my buddies played East&West (a Cold War A&A expansion by Imp Games (http://www.impgames.com/), we tended to listen to Metallica's Black Album, in particular the song "Don't Tread On Me"

I don't like hearing music during strategic boardgames, I prefer to have musical background during wargames or Action Boardgames. You should try to play Zombies! and listen to Brains, Brains, Brains(by Milltown demons) at the same time. If you close your eyes you can feel like the shotgun guy, trapped between unenděng hordes of moaning zombies.

It your going to kill your enemy in A&A then do it with AUTHORITY :)

But if you aren't a metal guy, there sure is heck is nothing wrong with Wagner!

Metal Church, Ministry, Metallica, MegaDeath, and Iron Maiden are all good starters... or "Shout at the Devil" Motley Crue before they became panzies....

Ride of the Valkyries is an all time fave. A mate did a 6 tune tape for each nation - cool. Russian and German anthems, Battle of Britain/RAF music, Japanese folk, Big US Band stuff. We stopped though cos we either forgot to play them or the turns changed too quickly.

Here's a recommendation from a guy with over 10,000 CD's....

Check out one of my new favorites - the latest from jazz power-trio Medeski, Martin & Wood, "End Of The World Party {just in case}".

In my case the question isn't "What to listen to?"; but rather, "What game to play?" Guess what the answer is!

Nothing like singing/urging your teammate to "Break on through to the other side"....

I like the idea of the Russian national anthem, I think I'll DL that tonight. Anyone know the name of the song the old soviet navy choir used to be famous for. I'd like to DL that too.

Adios
