I love this game. I thought it would suck. But it didn't.
HOWEVER...
why does it take SO LONG for the haunt to show up?
Let me get it straight.
Roll six dice when you get an omen. If it's less than or equal to the total omens, the haunt comes out.
Would it be possible to, for a shorter game, use like 4 dice, or am i reading the rule wrong entirely?

You're reading them right. It can take a long time for the haunt to start, but that's for the good; in general, the traitor has the advantage, so it's good for the heroes to have time to prepare, before they have to fight for their lives.

I've played two games now where the first person to draw an omen card rolled blanks on all six dice! The first time was the very first we played so we ignored it and didn't start the haunt.
The second time was last week and we decided to see what would happen. The traitor won. It wasn't a complete slaughter. The explorer's did have a chance to win but flubbed the roll.
I've found that if everyone knows how to play the game will take about an hour to an hour and a half.

I played the "let them in haunt" last night. Very fun. The house and the traitor won...

well in term of statistic, it take about 20-30 minute of the game to explore the house and start the haunt, witch give you a bit of time to discover tiles and items or powerups. since a good portion of the haunts involve going into exact named tiles, it gives you some time to discovers those rooms and stuff. since monster cant be kill most of the time, and since the traitor as powers up most of the time. being armed and prepared when the rockus starts at least give you a chance ;)

The first time we ever played the game, we had six players...three of whom are not used to strategy type games...okay, they were our wives. Anyway, we the box said about an hour so that is what we figured. The haunt took forever to show up, and when it did it was "The Seance" which is by far the most complicated Haunt I'vve encountered. Add to that everyone trying to figure out the game itself and the whole thing tooK 3 HOURS!!! No kidding. Since then, we've figured out the game and it only takes about 45 minutes on average. I love the game but that first one was a doozy.

the game is a bit overwhelming at first i conceded that, the errors and misprints dont make it easier at all for beginner. But once you absorb the rules, i think the games make for a different experience from anything down there

I agree with Meush, The first couple of games my group and I played took about 2 and a half hours (it helped that i can explain the game quickly and accuratley for rules) and they were a little overwhelming. Everyone kept asking a lot of questions (i had played preveously with another group) so that slowed us down a little. But once we got the hang of everything games went quick. I still think this is the most original game on the market. I really hope to see expansions or entire new houses in the future.

would be nice indeed :) lots of potentiel, i would like a mix on addon, tile and event and omen and stuff that mix with the original. as for the misprint and stuff. i think we should get a better version for free, because they sold a product with was faulty and they knew it. I kinda get the feeling that i bought a great game, but still faulty, witch with everyother product would not stand laws (at least in canada). exept from that, ive got a great customer service respond to some of the pieces that was missing in the 1 place, the game is great, everything is fine, im just feeling they could at least redone the faulty tiles and books, witch would come less expensive to send us, 1 version buyer, while they could simply switch the 1-2 faulty tile like underground lake with the faulty one in the production line. but exept from that, ive yet to see a game that innovating. i think many more tile based horror games are on theyre way
