View Full Version : AAR Oil Resource?

I was thinking that there should be oil rigs placed on the map allow for one to collect Oil money or Oil IPCs but instead it would be called OPCs. In order to build units you would need to also pay the Oil price. This not only adds more stratagey to the game but more fun, as players battle over Oil. Of course Inf. and Art. would not cost any Oil to make, but ships, fighters, bombers, and tanks would. Also if Britian was constantly being sacked by German U-boats, then it would lose out on it's oil supplies also. This was just an idea that I had, feel free to put your two cents into it.

Nuclear, you might want to check out A&A Europe. That game actually addresses, to a limited degree, your coments on including oil resources in the game. Not nearly so to the degree you suggest, however. I would have to say that, all things considered, with the IPC values as given to the various territories now, that oil resources would be included in the IPC values. I'm not too sure about adding rules if they're not needed. Which is not to trash your idea, it's just that I prefer to keep it as simple as possible. This would add another layer of complexity that is probably represented abstractly in the game already. IMHO, that is. :)
Very good kauf. My sentiments also. Oil rules would work great if they had been thought out from the inception of the game. But now trying to squeeze them in seems a bit pushed.
I really like Eagles' ATTACK game oil rules as they were well thought out.
As kaufy stated, the ipcs represent very well alot of that stuff abstractly.

right, it might become too complicated but, for the more serious and experienced gamers, then there would be some way it could work.

Yeah and add coal, bauxite, ironore, wood, lumber, cow, grain and bananas! :D
Industry Giant II might be just the game for the serious and experienced gamer. We could try to turn it into War Economy Planner 1.0.
As long as I can keep playing A&A without having to actualy ship all the resources needed for building a tank, fine by me.
Ooops, did I just get cynical? :D

If you want to add oil you should do away with IPCs and just have different resources from each territory.

Well the Oil to me in one part was to limit how many tanks, airplanes, bombers, and ships on the board. Each unit would require oil to operate except for the AA gun, Infantry, and Artillery units. This adds realism to me. As to how to do away with IPCs phoenix I have not clue as to how to do that yet. I suppose Iron or steel could be added in its place. I will have to think about this for awhile. Thanks everybody for their comments, keep them coming.

Interesting idea... Probably best to reduce a territory's IPC value, and convert some of it into OPCs, instead of adding to the value of the territory. Might be worth a shot, though... :D

OPC's ... I LIKE IT !!!

As to determine how much Oil Production Certificates or OPCs each nation gets in my mind would have to be determined by how many oil rigs are under your control times 5 or something like that. Each unit's OPCs cost would be 1/2 of the IPC value, rounded up to the nearest whole number. Also most each unit would require maintance and thus you would have to keep paying OPCs to current units in order to keep them functioning.

A variant of the oil aspect you speak of can be found in
eagle games "Attack!" with the expansion. It's a somewhat
different game however with a little more of a political touch..
(note I'm NOT saying Attack is better or anything, I love both
games)

I played Attack once. It was ok, but seemed like a little too much like a cross between Risk and A&A, with more Risk (and that's not a good thing ;)). Has potential, though.

Yeah and add coal, bauxite, ironore, wood, lumber, cow, grain and bananas!
Enderson buys 1 German Tank with 3 bananas.
The monkey behind the bank goes crazy and gives him 4.
Enderson proceeds to destroy the Russians on the Eastern Front and in doing so wins the game.
Bananas would be a great idea! :D

I bought Attack and the Attack expansion today. This game has Oil rules. DocD pointed this out earlier in this thread. Maybe it will change my views on the introduction of oil in A&A (up to this moment I believe oil shouldn't be an introduced in A&A).
At the Eagle-site I saw an announcement that the game "War! Blitzkrieg & Bombers" will be released during spring 2006. Looks like a real A&A copy, only it looks like they will be using a fictional worldmap (maps?).
Anyone knows more about this planned release?

Yeah, I read somewhere he is one big bad ape! Especially when operating together with Clauzewitz! :D

Totally; I'm afraid he's gonna try to get into Chicago, and do something horrible. Although, whether Chicago-ians would notice, is another thing... ;) :D

Never been there, never will be.....
Has he got the TNT already attached to his body than?
RuHurt

TNT? He'd never use anything so traceable... no, I'd look for someone carrying something subtle, like a fly-swatter and a can of cool-whip. Something devious... :D

A... hat? Sorry, Enderson, you just don't quite get it yet... ;) :D
I could swear I heard something about a two-hundred foot long jungle vine and a toilet plunger, but I don't know for sure, and I'd hate to be accused of spreading rumors... :D
